There is a superb article on page 34 of the June 2009 issue of "MAN at ARMS for the Gun Collector" magazine by the Forum's Own Kevin Williams detailing some of the history of the Pre-war Colt 38 Super. I once owned one of those, a Super Match grade, with fixed sights.

I'll look for the magazine in the one store that sells it here, Border's.

That .38 Super had the slickest action that I've ever encountered on an auto pistol. My Beretta 92 is very good, but that prewar Super was a sensual delight to operate.
