I've got a 686 that has seen a lot of use and the carry-up is a little slow so I'm going to fit a new hand. I've fitted hands before and it is no big deal. I have several hands for 686 that I bought over the years just to have some spares on hand.
The newer hands have a hump on their front edge where it rides against the frame, some of the older hands look identical except they don't have the hump.
Question is: What is the functional difference in these two hands? Can they be used interchangeably? The revolver in question is a 686-6.

My knowledge is limited on this question, but I can say I once found a K-frame with one of the "hump" hands and the hump was binding against bolt during cycling. Watch for that.
