Large screw inside a Model 52 - is this the "Trigger Stop Screw"?

There is a screw inside my Model 52 that I never paid any attention to before.

It's in the middle of this photo - what is it, what does it do, and how does it get adjusted? Is it the "Trigger Stop Screw"?


Ouch - the photo shows those parts to be absolutely filthy.

I found this while trying to figure out how the magazine disconnect works. I understand the plunger under the rear sight, but not the other parts..........

Nope, that is your screw to adjust the amount of pre-travel. If you give it too little, the trigger won't reset after a shot.

To adjust the amount of overtravel, remove the left stock and adjust that screw that the rear of the trigger contacts at the end of it's range of motion. NOTE that you must insery a magazine between each adjustment that you attempt.

My NRA firearms Assembly II book shows that as part no 18 - double action lockout screw. If the screw is tightened down the trigger slack will be increased and you will get the double action instead of single action operation.

Is yours a 52, 52-1, or 52-2. The reason I am asking is that this was only on the 52 and was not used on the 52-1 or 52-2.

The action was originally derived from the Model 39 which was a 9mm double action pistol.

No need for a magazine. The upper and lower screws are for trigger adjustment.The upper is done first. With slide off (as in the picture) cock hammer, turn screw up until hammer fires, turn in 1/4 turn, done. After top is set, cock hammer, turn lower screw in toward trigger , using a .015" shim between set screw and trigger, back out until hammer drops. trigger is set to factory standard. Use a BENT allen wrench for lower screw to adjust easier. That gun should be torn down and cleaned!
