Took two of my kids to the range.
We shot my Kimber 84M in .257 Roberts.

The stock is really nice and it could have gotten badly scratched.
Who cares.
So what.
Didn't even cross my mind.
Life is too short not to shoot your best guns with your ___

(kids, spouse, friends, members of your gun club, or self)

What did you do for a scope, and how did the rifle shoot?

It wears a 2x7 Leupold Vari-X II

and will shoot sub MOA with its favorite ammo.

Today we were shooting cheap Hornady rounds and getting two inch groups
But all that mattered was the quality time with family.

I agree. Scratches on wooden rifle stocks add character.
The first year I put the wood stock on my Savage .30-06 it wound up with a couple dings on it.... That's fine, it's a working rifle, I don't mind at all.
I make tons of great memories hunting with my daughters and my uncle - that's what it's all about.

That is some beautiful grain on that Kimber.
Congrats on using it like it was meant to be used,
as a rifle and not an ornament.
They are great shooters.

Yeah, like sitting in a safe for another 20 years would have made it worth more to you.
Another virgin sacrifice to the gods called children, well done man.
They will learn, you will smile, and that rifle will become a heirloom.

I am not that easy going with my guns. All of my guns are stainless but the shotgun has a blue upper receiver and barrel with a stainless lower receiver and a polymer stock. The only wood on my guns are the cocobolo grips on the ruger MkIII Hunter. I only let trustworthy people shoot my guns, and I warn them about my preferences if they don't already know me.

I shoot some of my dads guns and grandfathers' guns as well. Some of them are dinged up. They are still ok, but I would prefer to keep them in great shape. I don't have and don't really want any safe queens. They all get used. Some more gently than others.

I can understand building memories with the guns. It would be a shame to not enjoy them with your family.

this reminds me of my cousin.
his dad had a dbl barrel shotgun(i do not know brand) that his dad gave him as a young man.
he only took it out to clean it every so often and then put it away. cus said he had only shoot it once the day he received it and never shoot it again. it looked like new.
when uncle passed he left it to cus, who managed to beat the snot out of it over the next few years.
i am sure uncle was turning over in his grave about that.

That's what it's all about! Making memories with those we love most. I hope others will follow your example. Life is not a dress rehersal so enjoy what ya got while ya got it!!!
