My son Ret planted a dove field in his yard again this year and we shot it for the first time yesterday. We each invited one friend to join us. The field is about 60 feet wide and 300 yards long and consists solely of sunflowers. We started shooting at 2:00 and everyone except Ret (he was supervising his son Ben) had a limit of 15 birds by 3:15. Our guests left to go home and watch the Carolina/Georgia game,so we moved to the shade of the shop to watch Ben since he was nowhere near ready to call it a day.

Ben is standing beside the demolished pumphouse that he ran into with the golf cart. His little sister Liza lost 8 teeth as a result of the mishap.

Had to come back for more shells. :)

He started the day with a Winchester single shot .410 and killed two birds (his first ever),but after the guests left,I presented him with a Remington 1100 Light Twenty and he managed to take five more before we drug him into the house. All-in-all,a great day!

Those are the best kind of dove shoots. I don't partake of the big-field, many-shooters shoots any more. I have a couple of fields that are sort of natural food plots, along with volunteer stands of browntop millet from years of planting. I can recall a time or two way back in my childhood when my older brother and I were disappointed because no one thought to invite us to one of the big shoots. We would usually go out in the back yard and kill a limit in a couple of hours. What y'all are doing is creating memories for those young'uns that they will cherish for a lifetime.

By the way, HOW 'BOUT THEM DAWGS!:D

Great post Bobby. Nothing like watching those little ones get their first. I remember the story of his Sister getting badly banged up in the cart?pump house incident. Hope she is doing well too.

Thanks for sharing. Nice place ya got too Sir. By the way, that j frame holster I got from ya about 8 months ago caused me to go in search of a Model 31. Search is over, holster is filled, and I Love that little .32 long. Thanks for "priming the pump."

She's doin' great Bill, thanks. That's my boy's place, btw. Too much house for me! And all that grass to mow? No thanks.
Glad you found an appropriate piece to fill that holster. Those .32's are a hoot to shoot.

Dove season hasn't been too great around here lately but this year was different. I shot so much I got tired of shooting and finally walked over and just chatted with one my buddies as we watched our other friends shoot em'. It was fun watching a buddies black lab run out and retrieve the wounded ones, and we all had a great time and it reminded me of the good ole days.
