I just took several hundred 158 gr lead bullets out of long term storage and discovered that some of the lube has melted out of the grooves. It looks as though each bullet has about half of the original lube left in the grooves, when new, the grooves were filled flush.
The question is, is that enough lube to do the job or will I have to add lube to each bullet before it can be used?
Thanks

If it were me, I would just run them through one of my lubri-sizers and relube them. If you don't cast your own, and have the necessary equipment, you can always get some Lee Liquid Alox and coat them with that.

Hope this helps.

When I come across bullets like that I do exactly what Fred recommended. I coat them with Lee Liquid Alox since I don't cast my own bullets and have no other way of lubing.

You can lube other ways.

There is another option to the Lee Liquid Alox one.

It will work but ......

You can pan lube with a solid lube melted in a double boiler.

Take a spent case of the proper caliber and don't resize it. It will be used as a "cookie cutter" so to speak. Put the bullets in a dish or shallow pan on their bases. Melt the lube and pour it into the dish. It has to be deep enough to reach the top of the grease groove. Allow to harden. Use the case to cut the bullets free. If you are patient enough and allow the lube to harden sufficiently, you can lift the whole thing from the pan and push the bullets out.

Just for another option.

Do a search on the web for "pan lube" and check out all the neat stuff. It may be a help.

I recommend my system, which is shaking all my commercial cast bullets in Alox. The primary advantage of this method is mosquito control. Works better than a smudge pot. The smoke is so thick the insects that don't drop out of the sky, asphyxiated, don't have a chance of finding you. Additionally, it pretty much ends leading problems.
