Lenovo Computers - need help!

I have a Lenovo/IBM laptop T60 computer which has served me well for about 6 years.It is the third IBM that I have had and the current one was given to me by my company when I retired on 07-01-08. It has been very good and has done everything that I wanted it to do, but lets face it, it is old and is giving me some recurrent problems.

I am contemplating buying a new laptop and keeping this one in reserve to use when my new one of the wife's go on the fritz.

There are so many new models that I am confused. They are also much cheaper than what we paid for this one. Does anyone have any experience with Lenovo/IBM? What would be a current model to replace what I have? Is there a better laptop than Lenovo for about the same price?

I have two Lenovos running windows xp. They are the small ones that look like external hard drives standing vertically. No problems so far after about 1 year. I like these because you can hook up whatever monitor or whatever else you want. The latest ones have windows 7.
I bought a Lenovo laptop but did not like the screen and returned it.
The other thing I like is that they don't come loaded up with all kinds of useless software.
I have a small HP for travel.
