Both parties seek to get elected..... period. The reason is so they can pass laws that line the pockets of those who they are in bed with. It's no more complicated than that, they align with issues they believe resonate with the people who they want to vote for them. After the sixties you could see where this was headed. JFK, Robert, Martin, Riots, Kent State and Chicago 68. Both parties seek to infringe on the U.S. Constitution. "We the People" have lost control of our Republic.
Gun control is a natural issue for the dems because it dovetails into the standard liberal package (pass enough laws and you can create a perfect world where nobody has any rights).
I think few people realize just how little the repub party actually care about gun control, in fact it's an issue they inherited by default since they have to oppose whatever the dems support. Truth is the repubs (like all politicians) are scared of an armed electorate and prefer them defenseless. The gun rights issue for the repubs is a "talking issue" which is to say they use it to bait people into following them but they never actually do anything about it. Tax cuts for billionaires, tax cuts for business, subsidizing oil pipelines, etc... top of the list. Our gun rights? Not even on the radar.
