My Navy Marked Victory

I've been looking for one of these for a while. As luck would have it, I got it with a Boyt USN '43 shoulder holster. Written on the back of the holster was the name "LT Robbins".

All serial numbers match, to include on the inside of the stocks.

The SN is V 139691, maybe someone can help me out with a ship date, I'm thinking late 1942.

Given the SN does not reflect that it had the hammer block fix, I'm curious how the pistol avoided that? Makes me wonder if the owner didn't decide that he needed more than Uncle Sam.

I googled WWII Navy pilots with the last name Robbins and only found two. One was a Ace with five shoot downs. No way to prove.

Would it be worth it to request a letter from S&W?
