Let's talk J frame pocket holsters

the Mika Pocket Holster made personally by Robert Mika is outstanding. It stays in the pocket. The draw is easy. It is the only pocket holster I know of that you can re-holster without removing it from your pocket. It won't sweat through, and it doesn't hold moisture. Robert Mika is a heck of a nice guy, and he will call you once your order is placed. They are also reasonably priced. I don't even bother looking at others any longer.

I've settled on the Kramer horse hide model for my J-frames. It's very thin, prints less than most, breaks up the pattern of the gun to casual observers, and never fails to stay in the pocket (if you draw rubbing the top strap against the front of your pocket with models lacking a rear site. It's not a really great fit for models with rear sights (640 Pros & UCCs) because the sights obviously rub against the front of the pocket (just like you need to do with the holster). It's also easiest to get in and out of my pocket when dressing and undressing and doesn't seem to tear up pockets when practicing.

The Mikas are nice, but very bulky IMO. Feels like a wadded up T shirt in your pocket. :)

Kydex are lighter and thinner, but seem to have too much retention in my testing. The sharp edges tend to tear up my pockets when running drills.

The downside of the Kramer will cost you a C-note and the better part of a year to get. No matter which way you go, it might be a good idea to order one so you can play with it at the end of the year. You WILL get your money back if you don't like it on the secondary market.

Speaking of which, I haven't tried the Sparks models yet. Heck, I'm going to place the order today.

Only Kramers because they have the polymer square that breaks up the outline. Use um for circle loaders and bottom loaders.

Aholster kydex "backbone" model. They don't come any thinner. Draws very well.

Another vote here for Mika. I don’t know about his current model but I have one of his early ones when he was LAPD and selling for $5 out of the back of Police magazine. He was making them for his fellow cops to carry their 2” in front uniform pants pocket.
Although I will also recommend Kramer for sure. I got mine out of a used holster bin for $7

I have been using the Nemesis I found the last couple evenings. The holster is basically used to carry my Model 60 in the right front pants pocket when I go outside in the evenings. Before I retire at night I go outside, make sure my car is locked up and take a look around my place to make sure everything is as it should be. The Nemesis works for that. Doesn't completely mask the gun but breaks up the outline good enough. It's easy to draw the gun and the holster doesn't come out with the gun. I'll probably order a Mika down the road but fir now this is working

I have found a brand on Amazon, that has served me well - Barsony. Made in USA. Roughly comparable to Uncle Mikes IMHO, in quality and price. They make a variety of holsters - pocket, IWB, OWB, etc.

Good luck.

I’ve used the cheaper Uncle Mike’s number four pocket holster for 30 years. They just last a long time conform to the gun fit all my pockets. that’s what I started with and haven’t found any reason to change.

I'm happy to hear Mika is still out there making pocket holsters. He's a good guy, and I've had mine for years.

I just ordered a PCS Blackbird for my Model 40. All the pockets in the pants I wear have the rounded profile bottom like that holster. When I the put the gun in my pocket I have the best grip and the most room if the gun is straight up and down like the Blackbird. During my holster research I found numerous reference's that Lou Alessi recommended PCS for pocket holsters and I have used Lou's holsters for everything I've carried for 40+ years except for 1 Bianchi pistol pocket and 1 from Ritchie Leather who took over Lou's shop. This is my first pocket holster and I hope I made a good choice.
