Does anybody know what a set of the wood round butt finger groove grips off a Model 24-3 would sell for, You know the Lew Horton 44 special.

On Ebay and GB they bring $200 and up. I'm not sure I buy the theory that S&W wood dept. made a specific combat grip for the L.H. Distributor guns

Grips

The combats you speak of are selling for 125-200 plus. If the wood is exceptional grain and bookended they could be higher. I also dont subscribe to the idea that grips that were on LH guns are any more special that RB combats of that time frame.

There is a set currently at 213 on Ebay but you never know if it is a schill bid (Ebay is notorius for schill bids). People post them and then they are allegedly sold for an un-godly price, then you see them relisted by the same seller weeks later. Ebay is like GB, not a real good gauge of what "fair" market value is.

There is also a set that does not appear to be a matched set (two different panels and grains) that the seller has put a premium on because they are N frames but will never get it unless someone doesnt know what they are bidding on.

If you are selling, I would be interested in first crack and pics.

Wonder how I know about this?

Way to much IMO. Some folks love them, but I think they were made for the "Cool Factor" as they hurt and will sometimes bloody the web of my hand when shooting hot .41 mags. The rounded models don't come close to fitting my hand and are terrible for shooting anything above a .357 mag. I sanded a flat sets of FG's down and they fit better and didn't cost an arm and a leg.

A good set of Ahrends are a better grip IMO and cost a fraction of the combats. I used to sand down the FG's and they fit and feel much better than the overpriced combats. I now just buy the non FG models and rough em up with sandpaper, then apply 3 coats of poly to them. Much better gripping surface and they fit my hand well.

EVERY time a set of the combats come up for sale at a good price rollin-hot always beats me to the punch, sometimes by minutes:)! I believe he has some sort of computer alert system installed and wish I had the program as he has way too many of them:).

I agree from a user's standpoint, I shot my 24-3 only once with the original grips, and purchased a pair of finger groove Rd to Sq conversion grips form Kelley's, and sanded down the grooves and shortened and re-contoured the butt. They are thinner, and smooth and for an N Frame carry well. I will keep my original grips in the box so if I ever sell the gun it will have the originals with it "unused".

A seller at the show that I attented today wanted $300 a set. I smiled an walked on by.

The last 2 pair I sold went for $200. They were very nice and that was about 18 months ago.
