I've been getting a ton of light strikes using WWB 115 Grain 9mm in my 9mm shield. So far, I've shot some blazer, tula, expensive federal, and winchester defensive rounds, and they have all worked fine....

I've fired from different boxes of winchester white box, and all have produced light primer strikes on occassion, causing a FTF. Most of the rounds go off on the second strike, however out of more than a dozen, I've had about 2 go off in 4 strikes...I've cleaned the striker channel, the gun, called smith and requested a new striker assembly...

I'm hoping this will fix the problem. It better not be some kind of headspacing issue, or something else.

I'm quite upset with this problem. I took a hit trading in my LC9 for this shield. I've never had a problem with white box either through my LC9, or XD. In all of the years of using it, I've had one bad primer shot in the XD.

I might also add, smith informed me it's going to take 2.5 weeks to get the part. I'm in the next state over. Not to mention it takes a few days from them just to get a shipping label. I really don't feel like returning the firearm to them.

I'm frustrated to say the least. I'm losing faith in this pistol.

Are you sure it is a light strike issue?

My shield .40 had an issue where when I gripped the extended mag, it would somehow knock the trigger bar out of alignment so when I pulled the trigger, the striker would not fire. Once I released the trigger, i could squeeze and it would fire without racking the slide.

My shield is currently back at Smith & Wesson getting fixed (hopefully)

Personally, I've never had good results with the WWB 100 round Value Pack rounds, especially in Subcompacts. Regularly got light primer strikes with it. Won't buy it anymore.

Since it works fine with all the other brands, why tie yourself to WWB?

Yikes. Yes it's a light strike. I've looked at the primers. Weird how it's only with winchester white box.

I buy whatever target ammo is available, especially in these days of ammo shortages. I plan on gearing up to reload soon, but until then....

In my mind, the gun should eat whatever I feed it. None of my other pistols have ever been picky, why should this one be the exception? Especially since I'm using it for concealed carry.

If I would of known it didn't like certain ammo, I would of just bought a glock 26, or waited for the XDs in 9mm.

Being it is also a different shooter than your LC9,you could be limp wristing a bit. Mine eats WWB like candy.

Hrm, I doubt it's a limp wristing aspect. I've put 150 rounds of other ammo down range without a problem. Also, I'd expect a stove pipe, or something. I'm also not a newb shooter.

So if yours eats it like candy, here's hoping I just have a weak striker spring, or something.

Switch ammo, at least for a while until you get about 500 rounds through it. Then go back to what gives you problems. I'll bet it will eat it up after the pistol gets a chance to settle in.

I'd have a tough time trading a CCW gun that's running perfectly for something new.

I have a Shield 9mm with no issues and about 5-600 rounds through it. But, I have read some posts about issues with the Striker locking cap (or end cap). Sounds like light strikes and issues with the end cap might be related, and easily fixed under warranty. It's either the striker assy or the slide. If one doesn't fix it the other should.

Limp wristing was just a tought. It "could" be a send back to the mothership for repair.

It could be an ammo issue the way they are kicking out ammo. I'd try the switching ammo for awhile. I have over 6000 rounds through mine and like I said, zero problems, eats everything.

I have one of the first out last April. Mine has been doing double duty as a LGS "demmo". I let people on the boarder line of wanting/getting one handle and shoot it. They buy the ammo of their choice (no reloads) and shoot it. No charge, but I usually end up with a partial box of 50 "something ammo", extra brass for reloading and a relaxing hour or two of time well spent. :D

I have fired probably a thousand or more rounds of WWB through my Glock 19s, with never a FTF. You might want to send your pistol back to Smith and have them fix whatever is wrong with it. I would not want a carry piece that did not go bang every time.

I'm putting off sending it, I've got the label...They're also sending a new striker assembly, but customer service indicated it could take 2.5 weeks to get the part. I'm really hoping it's the assembly, so I don't have to ship the pistol back.

best of luck with your situation.... im still waiting to hear back on my shield that is currently back at S&W.

I guess it will give me time to build up my .40 ammo so i can test it once I get it back.

No malfs with my shield through 600 rounds. The only handgun I have that has been equally dependable is my sig 226. I shoot a lot of WWB too.

Just a quick update on my faulty brand new shield. I received it back from Smith today with a blank repair order. I had to call in to see what was done to the gun. The rep tells me it had faulty parts.

They modified the barrel chamber, and replaced the striker assy. It's now in spec. Who knows what else was done. I can see where the barrel chamber was modified and you can tell it was done by hand.

I'm happy it got taken care of, but why not send me some free mags for buying a defective pistol? Or list work performed on the repair order?

Why not just replace the entire barrel, so it doesn't look like ****?

I digress...

Don't be to upset with the wait time. I sent pictures of a deformed recoil rod and they are sending me a replacement. I was told to expect it in 3 weeks, that's not even with having to send the gun back...

I'm not upset with the wait time, just kind of disappointed that they gave me a blank work order, and a hand done milling job, instead of just perhaps a new barrel.

If I were the company, I would of at least included a new mag, or two for the hassle of buying a brand new defective gun and endure the hardship of having to ship it back and pick it up, in the first place.

I guess that's asking too much.

You're not the first person that I read had to call S&W to see what was actually done. If the repairs aren't visible, you then wonder "did they do ANYTHING?"

Let us know how it shoots!

I'll be happy to report the Shield is a fine defensive firearm....I took the pistol to the range today after receiving it back from Smith and Wesson last week. It now eats Winchester White Box like nobody's business. This gun is now 100 percent reliable. I was hitting bulls eyes out to 25 yards with cheap target ammo. The gun is right on target.

Overall, I'm very pleased. Now if only Smith and Wesson sent me a free magazine to compensate for having to drive to and from fedex to mail out the brand new pistol that was having light strike FTF issues...At any rate, I'm glad I ditched the Ruger LC9 and went with the Shield. It's now joins my Springfield XD 9mm as being a reliable, and accurate, work-horse.

The Ruger LC9 is also 100 percent reliable, but I just couldn't be as fast and accurate with follow up shots due to the hammer-fired DAO.
