Load Matching for Fixed Sight Guns?

Groo here
As I remember the TR m-21 was sighted in with Blackhills 44 spec.
245gr lead SWC at 900fps from the 4in barrel...
If anyone has this performance level load ,, try it.
Ps the m-22's [I have one ] had to tall a front sight and went back
for another one..

So, more velocity, with the same bullet does what? Brings the POI down? Where did the other bullets land with the lighter loads? Just asking the question.

Yes, this confirmed that others said. Lighter = lower. Faster = lower. Lighter + faster = lots lower.

This gun shot about 9 inches high with 240 grain bullets at about 750 f/s. That is the type of load I wanted from a 44 Special.

After sleeping on it, I decided togo with a taller sight to bring this one back down into proper 44 Special territory.

OEM sight was .200" this SDM one from my parts box measures .220". Should give me enough "elbow room to bring things down to reason.

The other advantage to the high hold that Skip demonstrated is that it makes the trigger reach much shorter. That's a big advantage to those of us with medium/small hands and/or short fingers. I have no problem with DA firing with N-frames or even with Colt New Services. You do need grips that fill the area behind the trigger guard for it to be comfortable.

krehmkej, I'm glad you found a solution to our problem . I knew that eventually you would find something to shoot to point of aim , I had lost interest after talking to S&W,they basically told me I didn't know how to properly sight and fire their handguns. I'll try your load and see what happens, if it works I won't have to replace my front sight with a higher one. If it don't, I'll just get a higher sight. Thanks again.....

This was a great learning drill, for sure. Knowing which to do and seeing the correct response was great.
My only other fixed sight revolver is a 681, and it shot to POA with the first load I tried.

This one has been an exercise in frustration, for sure.

The taller sight should get me there at closet to typical 44 Special velocities. Don't need to make a magnum out of it, that's what I have a Model 29 for..
