Any ideas for any loads with a heavyweight LSWC for the Auto Rim in a 22-4?

I interested in something like this one: http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=740944

I'd like to get 850-900 fps if I can do so without beating the gun to death. Do you think it's possible? If so, what powder should I look at?

I have no experience loading the .45 for anything but a RN 230 for a 1911.

I'd play with Unique and start at about 6 grains. That should do what you want. Hopefully you have a chronograph and can work you loads up from there.

If you can find some of the older reloading manuals, like a Lyman #42 or 43 you will probably find the data you want. New manuals just do go as high anymore.

Also, my load is an extrapolation. Go lower and work up to it to be safe.

I have loaded a 255gr swc with 6.1 grains of Unique to shoot in my 625's using Auto Rim brass Nice shooting in my 5inch and it will get your attention with the 3in barrel.

Thanks, Skip. That middle bullet, the 250, looks like the RCBS SWC I want to use. It's no Keith bullet, but the 270 Keith would probably be too heavy to get the velocities I want without beating the 22-4 to death.

It would really tickle me if I could find a load with 4756 or 2400 that would do the trick, but if I have to buy another powder...oh well.

VG,

That was a RCBS .45-255-KT I sent Skip, but it actually weighs 270 gr in my alloy. With 13.0 gr of 2400 in ACP brass, it clocked 921 fps average (instrumental), with an ES of 8 fps. EDIT: OOPS, that was actually the Ohaus, but the RCBS should be close.

I would think 7.0-7.5 gr of SR 4756 will get you close to where you want to be. I clocked a 255 gr LSWC at 860 fps (instrumental) with 7.0 gr of SR 4756 (ES was 15 fps).
