Local gunstore actually had .380 ammo !!!

It will be a frosty day in hell before I spend $27.50 for a box of .380. Prices and availability are getting beyond ridiculous. I'll sit on what I have and wait for the market place to wake and come to its senses. No much of a problem finding 9mm and 22LR at reasonable prices.

+ 1 Capt. Steve. I bought about 3 cases of 380 ACP ammo back in early 2008 when it was still $9.99 a box. These crazy ammo prices cannot be sustained forever.

Winchester silvertip .380 ammunition was selling for 49.00 per box at the show I attended Saturday. The ammunition "sold out" at that price.

In what areas are these prices so high? I live in South Carolina and can get .380 ammo at a local gunshop for 19.00 a box (target rounds). I don't have a .380 so I don't buy it. I do however have 9mm, 10mm, .357, .40 and .45 pistols and basically can get ammo anytime I want at a good price. Wal-Mart and Bass Pro don't have any stock but I think that its because it is so cheap.

I heard something totally crazy today at the range. A friend told me that he went to the local Wally World to buy some .22LR. There was one 550 bulk pack under the shelf, but the clerk told him that he could not sell it, and that Wally World would not be ordering or selling anymore .22 ammo.

Anyone else hear about this?

I just bought 50 rounds from my dealer for about the same price, $26.50. One box limit.
I shot a couple of magazines at the range and I want to keep my stash at 300 rounds.

Wheelgunner, I stopped by the local Wally World the other day on the off chance that might have something I need. The entire glass case, 6' high and 10" long was empty, as in not one box of anything! I couldn't find anyone working the area to ask what was up, but it was spooky. They did have lots of shotgun rounds at fairly reasonable prices. Why would they be "out" of everything but shotgun shells???

I am usually not the "conspiracy theory" type, but even I am starting to think that there is a whole lot more to this shortage than panic buying and stockpiling.

The shop I work at got some in today. Winchester WB 95gr FMJ in for $21.00 for 50 and crap Russian stuff for $18.99 for 50.

What's a .380?

I guess I'll just to get out the lead pot and sharpen some flints. I won't shoot any of that fancy cartridge ammo that I have and won't pay the crazy prices for more. I have no problem getting black powder and you can get flints for free. That's why people in the back country used flintlocks long after percussion and even cartridge guns were common.

This afternoon I starting diging into ammo and stuff I hadnt looked at in many years. I have very old factory new ammo some of it I have no doubt is pushing a 100 years old! .32 short RF, 3 boxs of .30 lugar, couple newer boxs 44/40 & 38/40, about 3 or 4 boxs .380, some 9mm, 4 boxs .223, (I no longer have a .223, 38/40, 30 lugar, .32 short RF, etc. 3 or 4 full boxs of .44 special peters ballon head, old pink boxs I never seen elsewhere, a old red box of 45 colt probley over a 100 years old, some dies I dont have guns for, some boxs of bullets very old, no guns for, some ransom rest inserts, no guns for, a box of real old 10 gauge, what a mess! some 25/20, 32/20, even 25 auto. Where did that come from? Also 250 savage.

I mean, talk about stupidity.
Is it any wonder why ammo prices are through the roof with all this "sky is falling" panic buying going on? Frickin' idiots.....

I'd posted about that. George Noory, the host of Coast to Coast AM (a late night radio show) was the one talking about it, and one of the guys in line. He said the guy in front of him had a busted knee that was swolen from a motorcycle accident and still stayed in line.

Hey Feril, I've even got a box of .30 Mauser! I have no idea where I got it, or why. I also have no idea how I'm going to get rid of it. I also have a bunch of the .30 Luger, but I've got a barrel assembly for one of my P210 Sigs, so its staying put. I've also got some factory .455 ammo, again without a gun to fire it. It was high dollar stuff when I bought it.

I'm thinking our old oddball guns might be easier to find ammo for than the fad guns like the .380 and such.

I've had a .380 for years; not because it was a fad but because I liked it. Denigrate the caliber if you will but as a friend once said when I asked him about .25, "well it beats harsh words". I bought a Bersa Thunder which was a real tack-driver and even had its Firestorm clone then sold both of them a few years back. I picked up another Bersa Thunder in a trade and the reason I am thinking of selling it is not due to the ammo situation (of which I have at least a case stockpiled) but that 1) I just bought a Colt Government .380 so I have that caliber covered quite nicely and 2) the prices I have seen the Bersa getting on THR will easily cover the 5" M&P I already bought and the 4" M&P I just need to go pick up. I just can't pass up two Smiths for the price of one Bersa.

I paid $292 out the door for my Bersa Thunder CC .380 last summer. No idea what they go for now but doubt they have gone up much. For me it was one of the best bang for buck (sorry bout that), purchases I have ever made. Great gun, shoots like a dream. For its designed function - CCW where up close and personal will be the most likely scenario, 8 rounds of .380 will work just fine.

I felt like a fool after I came home a few years ago with 1000rds of 380......guess I wasnt, tons of 32 as well, even 25
