Local USPS office won't answer the phone

Result of budget cuts....less staffing. In my agency, office staff went first, followed by the fire budget==people wanted the biologists for site visits, planning meetings, etc.

Retiring Saturday and all I've done is approve new boat docks for rich "west siders" for a couple of weeks.

The local PO phone # is programed in my home phone. I used to call them (always got thru to someone) when I questioned a tracked delivery issue. Last time I tried I found out it's now an 800 #. There's 5 PO's within 6 miles of me and they all use the same 800 # now.

If you call the 800 number (which is nationwide) and explain your issue they'll notify your local PO and they local PO Head will call you. I've had packages go missing, call the 800 number in the morning, my PO calls me early in the afternoon to tell me he called the recipient PO who found my package and it's out being delivered.

I got no complaints. Have you ever tried calling your local FedEx or UPS?

My post office staff always answers in less than 4 rings - got the # from phone book - maybe I'm just lucky
They keep discussing closing our local office and letting us drive 42 miles to get packages -nice
