Long term Storage

Have a 6 month -14 month deployment comming up,
looking for recomendations on way to store my late
model smith revolvers [SS, Blue & Nickle]. The de-humid
cans will be checked once a month but other than that
They will remain in the safes. thanks

I'd wax the outside and grease the bores.
Just clean out the bores when you return and they should be ready to shoot.

Wipe all metal surfaces down with CLP, leave no finger prints on the metal. Worked for me during many long deployments and storage (at mothers house for years.....)

I have a golden rod in the big safe (wired through the threaded lifting hole in the top but have not figured out how to get one into the safe safe. I have had guns in there which have seldom if ever seen the light of day while I've been sick... approaching 20 years... and no rust.
I used Break Free CLP inside & out. I just pulled my M36-1 out & it was clean, no visible film & pretty dry inside when I pulled the side plate... I pulled the side plate & lubed her up, slick as the day I put her away. I just wiped the outside with CLP on a patch.

I use Renaissance Wax, but others recommend Johnson's Paste Wax with good results. A light coating of Break-Free on the bore/chambers and you'll be set.

I also use Sack-Ups (or another similar gun sock product) to prevent dings and scratches if there is any contact between guns, but any breathable case would also work. Stay safe on your deployment.

Should work. I did the same thing with RIG, made sure that the guns didn't contact anything that absorbs moisture by dropping them into plastic bags. Also kept the RIG from damaging any foam (as in foam-lined cases). My guns survived two or three years in a storage shed in Norfolk where summer is hot & humid, winter is cold & wet, and those are the only two seasons.

+2 on the Sack-Ups. They do much more than prevent dings. They are silicone impregnated and will keep firearms from rusting. They also keep moisture out while also allowing any moisture on the firearm to wick away. Sack-Ups by themselves is all you need for long storage.....period.

I live in a hot, humid climate. I've had a Winchester 94 grow rust after a couple hours use on a steamy, sweaty summer afternoon. But for storage, I've never had to do anything except heavily oil my guns and put them away where it is dry. I've never used any dehumidifiers, silica gel or anything. I have some guns in a locking cabinet that have not been taken out except for inspection in over 15 years and none of them have shown any signs of deterioration. So, for 6-14 months I think you're safe using a good rust-preventive oil and giving he guns a wet wipe-down on the exterior and a light oiling inside the bore and chambers. I've used Break-Free CLP and Sentry Solutions Tufguard and they seem to work well.

I use Break Free Collectors on all guns for long storage. They guarantee it for five years between applications and it does exactly what they say it will do.

I've oiled guns and then put them in vacume food storage bags. Seems to work fine. Has anyone else ever used this? Works nicely on long guns too.
