Hi Everyone,

I've been carrying a G19 in a CTAC holster for my "IWB" setup for a few years now, but my newest G19 keeps hitting me in the head with brass and I'm not very fond of the direction Glock has gone in the past few years.

I'm looking at a M&P Pro 4.25" and it looks like it is slightly larger than the G19, but doable size wise.

My questions are:

1. What type of night sights (brand) does the M&P Pro come with?

2. For those who have shot this pistol and a G19, what comparison thoughts do you have on the trigger or the way it fires.

3. Inconsistent brass ejection has been one of my problems with the Glock despite trying a different extractor and ejector. Has anyone had this sort of issue with the M&P? Most youtube videos I've seen of it look like it is pretty consistent in the ejection pattern.

4. Glock lockup doesn't always seem tight. I've had this problem with numerous Glock's over the years. How well does the M&P lockup in comparison?

I welcome any other thoughts you have,

Alan

As a Glock-a-holic myself, I understand where you are coming from. One of the big advantages M&P has over non GEN 4 Glocks, are the adjustable back straps and the slight beaver tail. Slide bite is a non-issue with M&P's.

Although I have not had the issue's you have had with your Glocks, I can tell you M&P's are very good pistols, but not perfect. There appear to be trigger and sight issues in more abundance than with Glocks.

After market sights are plentiful for M&P's as are holster and other accessories. Hope this helps.

It's disappointing to hear about the newer model G19s.
I've got Gen3 G17, G21SF and G26 all 2010
and an old Gen3 G23 all run great.

I wanted to find a better shooting (less recoil/muzzle flip) than the G23 and I'm very glad I tried M&P. Loved the M&P40c so much the first time shooting it, I ordered a full sized M&P40 that same night. Excellent shooters, ergoes and trigger.

If we were only allowed to own one gun, for me, it would be the M&P40c.

Hi
I have a similiar thread here. I was a TOTAL glock guy. I own G22 23 27 17 19 26 G30 and the G36, Carried daily a G27 (I mean daily) Have at least 3,000 rounds through without any problems. Glock were it for me, Until i shot a M&P, a friend from a local PD let me try his issue M&P 45, I just shot 3-10 round magazine and i was sold. I ordere a M&P 45c on the way home from the range. I have had my M&P for a week now and love it, Accurate, soft shooter and very very comfortable to wear. Although slightly bigger that the G27 it rides nice in a TT gunleather Hi Ride (Awesome holster by the way). The M&P is the way to go (my opinion)

I understand the frustration about Glock currently. I have carried Glocks in one caliber or another for over 13 years. I favor the G19/23 sized pistols and I currently carry a G19 3rd gen. With that said I also carry a M&P9 FS as well. I have been carrying the M&P on duty pretty regularly for about a month now. My 3rd gen G19 did not suffer from the ejection issues or any other issue for that matter. It has been flawless.
I simply wanted to give the M&P another go. I carried my G19 on an off duty usually in a Comp-Tac infidel. I carry the M&P in the same set up. Both carry and feel the same for me. The M&P FS is just a hair larger than the G19, and a hair smaller than my G17. The extraction of my M&P has been perfect. No issues at all. The lockup on the M&P does seem a bit tighter and stronger than the G19. The factory nights sights work ok, I believe S&W makes them inhouse, and trijicon installs the tubes. I personally install Ameriglo's on all my pistols. I run I-Dots on my Glocks and my M&P. The M&P's trigger out of the box, for a Glock shooter is horrible. My advice is pick up the APEX Ram and DCAEK asap. With these parts installed, the trigger in my M&P feels exactly like the trigger in my Glock with the OEM 3.5 "-" connector. My M&P has digested over 1400 rounds to date without a single issue. The first 840 rounds were done, right out of the box without cleaning or lube. I simply bought it, went to the range and started shooting. I cleaned it the first time after I shot 840 rounds through it.
Now the M&P was not perfect either. The first releases had rust issues, mag drop issues, broken firing pins, and dead triggers. My first M&P, a 40 FS had the dead trigger issue. I no longer own that one. As an M&P armorer I can attest to the fact that S&W has been very responsive to fixing these issues, and have done a great job of it. The current production guns seem to be well put together and lacking any of the prior problems. I agree with your statement about Glock. I am trouble by the way they handled the 4th gen issues. IMO they have lost their edge, and no one knows where they are headed. S&W seems to be heading the in the right direction with the M&P. I am seeing more and more of them showing up in officers holsters. If any pistol can take back some of the LE market from Glock, I think it is going to be the M&P. Either pistol will serve you well. Hi,

I appreciate the info Texaspoff, do you have any comments about differences in concealment for IWB of both the G19 and M&P FS. I compared them today and the M&P is larger, but not by a huge amount. EDIT - I missed your part about how they carry the same. Where do you carry at typically, I tend to carry around 5-5:30...

I shoot Glock's well, and I prefer the standard connector because I like taking of the slack and feeling the spot where the connector makes contact. I've tried the 3.5 connector but it seems to spread that over a longer distance and I actually prefer the heavier. Will a stock M&P be more to my liking since the 3.5 isn't my go to trigger already?

I do admit, despite my unhappiness with Glock, my older one doesn't pelt me in the face with brass and the M&P will have to impress me to unseat it from its IWB role.

Thanks,

Alan

Try to get to a store and dry fire one. It's different from Glock in that there's a little pre-travel then a crisp, clean, no creep 5.0# pull. (that's what it feels like to me) Love it.

Also you can contact Glock for revision parts to make your new G19 run like your older one. Glock did have some "new model" problems as most gun makers have. These problems are being resolved. Bill

I've just about got rid of all my Glocks and going M&P as I much prefer the grip.
Both are great.
I have a M&P 45c and its about the size of the G19.
I have a FS 40, and shot a 9c this weekend before last and may pick one of those up.

I've been dedicated Glock carrier since 1993/1994, but I was at the range with another instructor recently and shot his Taurus 24/7, and I strongly recommend you try it out. The grip is 1000 times more comfortable than the Glock. The one I shot was a 45, carried one more round in the magazine than the Glock, but the grip felt about like a 9mm's.

I may have to look at switching over...

I do the same with my Glock triggers, take up the pretravel and set on the connector break. The stock M&P trigger will allow for this as well, but it isn't all that great. The stock M&P trigger has a light take up and about 6 plus pounds to break the sear. Non Glocks folks wll not have much of an issue with it, but us Glock people hate it. The Apex DCAEK and RAM transforms the stock M&P trigger into a work of art. It increases the resistance of the take up, like a Glock. The hard sear has a clean even break and a short reset point. The RAM gives a very tactile reset. The best way to describe the kit is it gives the M&P a Glock trigger. I wouldn't own an M&P without it. I use the Glock OEM "-" connector in my Glocks because it has a distinct break point. The other 3.5 connectors I have tried do not have this and your right, they try and spread the break out. It is hard for S&W to sell the M&P to Glock lovers because of the trigger. The Ergos are better, but the stock trigger keeps people away. I can tell you this, if S&W had the apex stuff in it to start, they would be further back ordered than they already are.
I will always have love for my Glocks, but I passed the 2000 rounds mark yesterday with my M&P and have had no issues at all. I have carried it on and off duty for over a month now, and it carries better than my 19 at least to me. I carry in the 4 to 430 position in my infidel. I can honestly say this M&P is running right along with my 19. I have run this pistol very hard purposely and I am very impressed. TXPO

All I can say is see if you can try'm before you buy'm....I have never been a Glock fan and I am in the process of converting a good freind of mine who is a retired Sheriff Deputy and my 9Pro alomst has him convinced. We'll see.

I actually like the stock M&P trigger of the stock Glock trigger.

The only issue I had with glock was the grip was uncomfortable for me.
The M&P grip made the final decission for me.

By the way... VELCOME TO DA DARK SIDE!!!

Yes, I much prefer the stock M&P9C trigger to the stock G19 trigger.

There have been several locals guys here who were Glock loyalists for ages that switched to M&Ps.

You can see that sweeping across the country in the last year or so.

Both Glock and S&W offer great guns.

I've owned 4 Glocks, still have 2, G17 &G26. When I first felt the M&P9 in my hands, I bought it. My Glocks have always been flawless, but the natural point of aim I get with the M&P makes it very fast to acquire my target from a draw and to get back on target with. Very important in IDPA. About a year ago, my son came home from the Middle East. He said he wanted his own pistol. I took him out with my Glocks and the M&P. Long story short, he now owns my M&P. I kept shooting the G17 at IDPA, but really missed the speed I had gained with the M&P. I just bought another one for myself. Both brands have been flawless but I shoot the M&P much better than the Glock. Before the M&P, Glock had no real competition. And with Glock having issues now, the M&P is the way to go.

I too am a long time Glock fan, still own one as a matter of fact, but I feel like the M&P series is equal in every way to the Glock.

I like to carry full size pistols for my EDC, and the M&P9 fs is just about the perfect carry gun for me. I still love the G17, just like the M&P a little more.

Hi,

Well guys I'm disappointed because I really like the M&P 9mm fullsize, but it does not conceal well for the way I carry it. I carry at around 5-5:30p and I don't know if it is the shape, but the Glock melds into me and the M&P sticks out everywhere. I tried it in a CTAC holster which is what I conceal the Glock with although the M&P version had the kydex formed for a thumb safety which I didn't need. If anyone has concealment ideas that might compare to the Glock I'm all ears...

Thanks,

Alan

I carry strongside, with a homemade kydex rig similar to a Raven Concealment holster with some forward cant, not much, just enough cant to allowing bending at the knees without the grip printing horribly.
