Yes, I've noticed little quips in the lines on the program - one reference by the female deputy about 'buying AK47's on the internet', and once a reference made about a hunter such as: 'He's the worst kind of hunter - a good one'.
It seems impossible for a show's writer/producer not to interject his own beliefs and morays on a piece of entertainment.

Also note how the Sheriff and his deputies wear their duty weapons. They nearly always wear them in FRONT of their right hip. Ever tried sitting down, or in an automobile like that? Darned uncomfortable. But I'm sure it's all for the camera, so that you don't forget who they are.

And why would the female deputy wear a uniform shirt and place the department badge on her belt?? Too strange.

OK - through pickin' at'em. Like the wife says - 'it's just a show'.

Longmire ---
I thought I would be watching a cop show but it turned out I was watching a soap opera. :(

Nice grips. He's mighty particular about his work.

I'm trying to enjoy the Longmire show but it isn't that well done. I still watch it though, hoping it'll get better.

I figured someone would point out that L doesn't carry his 1911 "cocked & locked".

Remember one of the early episodes where someone was 'sniping' folks with a 'buffalo rifle'? The rifle was referred to as a 'drop block'. WT??????

Oh yeah - had about forgotten that one. Part of the info was that NO ONE would own anything as enormously 'powerful' as a .45-70. And they enunciated the caliber like it was Latin or something exotic and foreign.

I like it because it is filmed in New Mexico. Can recognize about half the locations. It does have a few anti-gun comments. And there are a lot of 45-70 and other 'buffalo' calibers in NM, drop block, rolling block, trapdoor, you name it. Most of the actual rural law enforcers know that.
A few years ago a gent in NE NM was arrested for having sexual relations with the teen aged girls in his cult. Same thing happened in Texas.
Our Governor carries a 45. Don't know if she carries it cocked and locked.

Never saw the show - but the pic looks a little like W.

In my all my days I've never seen a sheriff dress like a ranch hand. Not in New Mexico or Wyoming.

Spent my LE career in NM and while I have seen Sheriff's dress casually, when not in uniform they usually wear pressed Wranglers and a solid color( white or tan) western shirt that's also pressed. Most sheriffs are retired NMSP or APD, BCSO it seems.

I like it. Have a few gripes, but when every other channel is "reality" TV, I'm up for anything. Funny how a sheriff's department only has 4 cops, including the sheriff. Do they ever get a day off?

I have watched it since it came on, fairly entertaining. The "uniforms" are a little off, but I do remember when I was living in Central Montana and NW Wyoming, there were Sheriff's and their Deputies who dressed down from the usual uniforms. We need to remember that the show is geared for the American people who probably believe that image is what Law Enforcement is in the West. If they really showed what being a LEO is out there it would just be Longmire leaving the house each morning and taking several boring rides around the county maybe stopping to talk to some ranchers.

I think the best representation or an "old school" modern day sheriff was the character of Sheriff Ed Tom Bell played by Tommy Lee Jones in No Country For Old Men. Every day he just tooled around minding his own business until things exploded due to a botched drug deal. One great moment was when Bell and his Deputy we looking over the drug deal scene with all of the dead bodies and the Deputy said,"Sheriff, this sure is a mess" Bell looked up and said,"if it isn't it will do until the real mess gets here(meaning the Feds).

I like the grips, where can I get a set or two? Are they readily available? I especially like the ones on the 1911.

I like the show too...Walt Longmire is like a cowboy Clint Eastwood/Columbo type, a very believeable character. Ferg is cool too...

My wife and I enjoy the show, but it's definitely not for the short-attention-span set... long on character development and slowly emerging underlying plotlines, (relatively) short on action.

Beautiful grips, BTW!

:)

I watched it once. That was more than enough. Nice grips, though. Too bad about the "cocked and locked" thing. Contrast that with Tom Selleck's character on Vegas.

Grips are available from member executioner. He actually made mine a little thicker than normal, as I've got big hands. You can also request more or less bark or medallions based on what you want. They fit my guns perfectly.

As for the show, it's somewhat entertaining. I don't expect a lot of realism out of anything on TV. I heard the books are pretty good.

Based on all the episodes I've watched, he carries a Colt Series 70 with hammer down on a loaded chamber, and cocks the gun as needed.

I put the show in the category as "No Country" and "Jesse Stone".

It sure isn't the best cop show on TV, but it's a whole lot better than watching "Dancing with the Stars", "Survivor", "Bachlorette", or "the Jerry Springer show". I am about to the point of getting rid of my TV and back to reading good books.

I like the show for some reason, mostly because the other stuff on TV with the exception of The Walking Dead, Hell on Wheels, Blue Bloods and Doctor Who in my opinion is about as entertaining as watching someone sleep. I picked up on a couple of the remarks about guns, but I can tell you I have had to straighten out a couple of cops (not CO's but deputies) on firearms and the laws. I talked to one recently, a veteran deputy of 20 years plus who made the comment a month or so back that "civilians don't need AK-47's" I told her I owned one, and that it was before I worked in law enforcement, she kind of got really quiet and just said "oh" I think kind of realizing that not everyone who owned one is going to go scooters and get on the roof of a building or storm a mall. I kind of like the small town cop premise. My father was one and I recall sitting on the passenger seat of the Dodge Diplomat he used to drive, I still recall going to a couple of brush fires with him, I was no older than 6 or 7 at the time. I also remember going with him to get that Diplomat and watching him put the decal on in our driveway for the doors (nothing more than a large version of his badge). The town only had three cars, a white diplomat, a white St. Regis and a blue diplomat that belonged to the chief, who was the only full time cop. Not a bad gig for a town that had only one or two places to eat, one big store, and one gas station.
As far as Grashorn's, I have had a few of his grips and a set on my 27-2 right now. Pat is a first class guy to deal with and the grips fit perfectly, both the gun and my hand.

Nice grips. I always thought stags on a .357 looked better than they felt. How are those with full-house loads?

Haven't seen the show yet. May wait for Selleck to make another Jesse Stone now.

Now is not the time to cut any slack for any level of anti-gun programming orientation, no matter how mild. That includes the producers of Longmire. That show went off my radar after the third episode.

Haven't tried full house loads with them on. Probably won't. They're more for show than use.
