I found an interesting 9mm Stainless for $955. I think that is way high, though it looks barely used or carried. It only comes with 2 moon clips, no box. I'm not sure how much the missing box detracts.

Neat little guns. They are not all that common of a model since it was a limited production in the early 1990's. I have one that I bought new and it's still LNIB. Although I haven't researched them recently I've got mine listed as $800 for insurance value so I think the one you're looking at is a little pricey.

I see one for sell on Arms list for 875 it includes box and more clips.

A complete package (Box and Papers) definitely will add some value for the most part (approximately $100-$200). But it all boils down to what you are comfortable in paying for one. You don't see them everyday, I know i don't and do carry a little collector value regardless of having a box.

I bought mine last year at a gun show. I got it for $675 OTD. It had been fired, but very little and came in the box with all paperwork. I bought it from the former S&W Law Enforcement regional sales rep who had sold it originally to a lady for her carry gun. She carried it very little and due to health reasons was unable to continue carrying/shooting so she had him sell all her guns.

I knew it was a good price and did not hesitate one minute to buy it. It has become my daily carry gun and I love it. It has very little recoil and is extremely accurate. As a current (reserve) LEO, I have to qualify with it annually both day/night. Our daylight course requires prone/standing at 25 yards and I have no trouble qualifying in the mid to high 90's.

It came with the original finger groove rubber grips but I changed them to Pachmayr Compac Pro grips as they fit my hands better

I am very fond of the 940s and own several

I have rechambered my 940s for 38SUPER. Of course they can still fire all the other shorter cartridges . . . 38ACP, 9x21, 9MM Parabellun, 380ACP and more.

I also have some of the Performance Center 940 Specials. They are chambered for the much more powerful 356TSW cartridge.

While that asking price is high, I do not think it is WAY High. These do not turn up that often. 940s were only made for about a decade. The production was not as limited as some might assume, it is just that folks that own them tend to keep them. 940s were made for about a decade in both 2" and 3" configurations

Extra moon clips are not a problem, I think that even S&W still lists them on their site. If not, there are several other sources.

I have a butt load of moon clips.

The night before going shooting I will load up 20-30-40 or more so I do not fiddle with them on the firing line.

WELL I NEVER

Never seen one for sale (in person) ANYWHERE. In good condition what's 100$ too much spread over it's lifetime. Not like you will be tripping over them, until you buy one. ;)

Believe me that's what is going thru my mind. It's hard to believe that a small j frame could bring a $1000, yet that's where they're at.
