Let's say hypothetically that someone maybe cut one or two coils too many off an I-Frame hammer spring. Where would a fella find one of those and is it called a hammer spring or a center spring?
Asking for a friend. :D

Are you referring to the spring that is within the grip frame that powers the hammer? That is the mainspring and a replacement should be easy to find.

If it is an Improved I-Frame, with the coil mainspring, then a J-Frame spring should work. Try S&W Customer Service, 800-331-0852 first. They might send you one comp. They won't charge shipping like all retail sources will.

Yep, it's the long coil spring for the hammer plunger thingy.

I just saw this. I broke down my 1903 .32 Hand Ejector the past few days and have been cleaning and reassembling. Today, as I was about to insert the rebound spring into the rebound slide, I noticed something was inside the slide. I formed a hook onto a paper clip and retrieved what was deep inside there. It was about 2 coils of a spring. The wire size matched exactly the rebound spring that I was to reinstall. I removed it and put my revolver back together. It wouldn't work! I put the 2 coils back into the slide, then put the rest of the spring in, and it functions perfectly. If you still have the coils you removed, put them back into the slide and then install the rest of the spring. It will work.
