Hi Guys,

My old chest freezer, that I kept in my garage finally gave up the ghost after 14 years. Now wanting buy a new one that opens like a refrigerator. Think it called an upright style.

My twist is that I want a small refrigerated area in it to keep cold drinks on hand. Sort of like a refrigerator but reversed. Big freezer and small refrigerator.

Has anyone seen something like this? Home Depot, Lowes and local appliance stores are of no help.

Thanks, K

How many cubic feet do you require for the freezer section.

The upper compartment was the refrigerator and the bottom the freezer, but the refrigerator section could also be used as a freezer if needed.

A dorm size fridge for the drinks,, cost $39.
It uses almost no extra electricity,, and solves your problem.

Our upright freezer is a non self-defrosting unit,,,
IIRC, it only uses about 30% of a self defrosting one.

Ours is 25 years old, and still going strong.
Most units from back then need replaced because the new ones are so much more energy efficient.

Not so with ours, I put a wattmeter on it, the freezer uses about $40 a
year of electricity.

We do have ours in a cool, dry basement.
