Hello All,
For years I have wanted to get started reloading. As you might imagine, with a wife, two teenagers, a house, three cars, two jobs, one elderly mom,a dog, a cat, a garden, etc... Reloading equipment has always been pushed to the back burner.
Well now I have no other excuse. My wife and I went to some friends house for supper a couple of weeks ago. After supper we were looking around his studio ( he is an artist ) when Charles asked me if I reloaded. I told him I had always wanted too but just never got around to it. He pointed out a bench in the corner and told if I wanted it I could have it and all the stuff to go with it. He just gave me the bench, An RCBS S/S press, powder measure, case trimmer, two sets of scales, seven dies in .357 mag, .44 mag, .45 Colt, .308 Win., .220 Swift, 32-40 Win, and .270. About 400 primers (some price marked @ .85) and six or seven cans of powder, two Speer reloading manuals #8 & 10, and some other misc. stuff. My kind of friend!!!!
To the point of my post, I am looking for some experianced reloaders near me that would not mind helping a rookie out. I would like to visit someone and see their setup, let them walk me through the process, get some hands on experiance. I would like someone to visit me, look over what I have and offer suggestions as to what else I might need, and help me set up. I live in Statesville NC about 45 miles north of Charlotte. As a sales rep, I travel in and around Charlotte extensively and can pretty much go where I need to when I need to.
So if you are out there and would be willing to help, please e-mail me. Thanks in advance and I am really looking forward to joining your ranks.
One other samll dilema is that I'm going to have to buy at least five guns to match some of the dies I now have. Woe is me ;-)

Not a Tarheel but here is some info!

Tack,
You ARE in quite a dilemma! Reloading equipment and nothing to shoot those reloads out of! You NEED some more guns! :)

There is another option to getting help, videos. Even though you don't have Lee equipment, on his website there are some typical setup videos for single stage presses. www.leeprecision.com Looking at the front of those books will help also. In ALL of the modern manuals, there is a ton of information in the front part. Most folks just use the data section and skip over the useful stuff in the front.

I do have one caution for you too. While I really like the Speer #8 manual, I would watch the loads I use from it as a newbe. Especially some of the 38spl loads. They are much higher pressure than some +P loads recommended today.

While I'm not in your area, I do have a suggestion that will help. Get a Lyman #49 manual. They are probably around $20. It is their current version. Also, look up the powder companies on the web. Most of them have websites that have data available on them too. Use them for data on their powders. http://data.hodgdon.com/main_menu.asp , www.alliantpowder.com www.accuratearms.com

Tack, I'm over in Kannapolis and would be happy to let you come to the 'man cave" (shop) and let you see all of my 40 years of collecting reloading stuff, AND if you bring beer (kidding) I'll even let you reload some stuff or watch me do it.... If you're interested PM me for a phone number...... I have some days available.....
