More like from 1902, as it's in the low 5 digits. And it would be a Model of 1902 at that serial number. It should have a rounded butt.

6 shot, 4 inch

5 screw, 6 shot, square butt, 4 inch nickle, diamond grips, sn E 210XX, belonged to a sheriff in Wabash, AR

small "E"

There is a small E stamped on the bottom of the grip, probably not part of the SN.
I do not know how to post picture but can email one.
Thanks,

What we have here is insufficient information. If the SN provided is correct, and it is a six shot in .38 Special, it must be an early Model of 1902 from 1902. And all those had round butts (until a little later).

I had forgotten to make that comment. There was no "E" SN prefix. For a 5 screw .38 Special K frame, the only possibilities for a prefix to 210xx are: none, V, C, or K. The latter three are all WWII or later. There should also be matching SNs stamped on the bottom of the barrel and on the rear face of the cylinder (and two other locations not easily seen) for the earlier K-frames.

Thanks to all for the information. I figure it is 1902 from the data on ther barrel with dates up to 1901.

I have no idea whether there are any plans to shoot it, but if so, my usual recommendation is to use nothing but lead bullet loads. The oldies were not heat-treated and are somewhat weaker than later revolvers.
