I've got a loose front sight on my Model 29-2. If possible, I would like to fix it myself. I've read a couple of posts about tapping out the front sight pin, removing the front sight, cleaning, applying loctite (blue or red), and then reassembling. There were also some suggestions about very slightly bending the front sight pin to make it fit tighter. I'm more than capable of performing all this work, but is this an acceptable repair and will it fix the problem? Or...should I take it to a gunsmith? Thanks.

That's acceptable.
You might be better off to replace a loose sight pin with a slightly larger piece of drill rod, but bending slightly works.

As long as you don't intend to ever remove the sight, Loctite Red is a more or less permanent repair. If you ever do need to remove it, heating to 350 degrees to break down the Loctite works.
If in doubt, use Loctite Blue.

If it is just the front sight pin and it vibrates out, try slightly peening it so it is a bit out of round. It shoud fit tighter. I would try it inside the ends fo the tips do not look out of round.

If you do not wish to risk marring the sight ramp or pin, Loc-tite makes a wicking type material that will seep into the joint between the sight blade and ramp. I have used it very successfully to tighten sights on several guns. I canot recall the number of the wicking type material, contact you local Loc-tite distributer they should be able to get you the right stuff.

Here's the results...

Took the front sight pin and front sight out of the gun, degreased everything, applied blue (medium) loctite, and reassembled. Total time- 30 min. The loctite set up within a couple of hours and seems to have solved the looseness problem. I'll let it cure for a day or so, then start with some .44 Spl. loads to see if it holds. Then I'll move up to factory .44 mags. Should the blue loctite not hold up, I can always move up to red loctite since the repair was easy. Thanks for all of the help and advice!
