Maybe the local folk are starting to figure out what a few of us IHMSA Field Pistol shooters already know:

Using a wheelgun is a good way to enjoy toppling steel! No having to work the action five times to load five rounds. No having to re-establish a uniform grip.

We had I think seven revolvers at the last match. All but two were S&Ws! A Ruger was also used to shoot for score and a Freedom Arms showed, but mostly for tinkering purposes. May see it next year though and in the hands of a very good shooter!

This Model 14 was used to good effect, esp. considering it hadn't been out to play in quite a while. The owner also hosts the match, and often doesn't get a chance to shoot!

I brought out the integral scope mount 629 for it's IHMSA debut. Did OK, but needed my spotter! Hope he's back for the next match.

Same goes for my 625. If you're on, life's "easy", but misses can be hard to sort without someone eyeballing the target for you.

My third entry was the usual 10 5/8" 29-3. Did good, but would have been outstanding Had I not missed half the chickens!

A newer 629 used by a fellow returning to the sport after a long hiatus.

How about a 610? Another revolver that hadn't been fielded in a while. Mainspring screw had backed out, so it was suffering some misfires.

And the Ruger:

Loads were a bit too light, I think, but the owner is still experimenting with his .45 Colt.

Sorry, sw282, we were shooting at the same time. So no new photo of you or your beastie. From last month:

:)

When kdiver58 gets back shooting his two revolver entries the field may become quite crowded. Won't hurt my feelings one bit!
The more the merrier

Where is that? I am so looking for an IHMSA FP match near D/FW.

l didn't know l was so photogenic Jay. At least it was a ''Little'' bit dryer than our 0ctober Monsoon meet. l spent too much time drooling over that S&W 610..l have some great photos of it in action but my internet photo posting shots always miss the target

Georgia IHMSA match. There's two venues, Gainesville (SB, HS, FP) and Lincolnton (Just about any class in IHMSA!).

ETA: Sorry for delay in replying, have been away from computers since last week, trying to get a deer and scout fox squirrels whilst attempting not to melt in the heat. (60s, mostly)

Where's the M E A T..........?....??

As usual for this area, during deer season I see squirrels. And lots of deer when hunting squirrel. It's the closest place I can find fox squirrels, though, and find them more challenging to hunt anyway.

We lost our nice lease this year when the property was sold, probably to developers. So I fell back to the old public land haunts. Actually saw a deer last Friday, and two fox squirrels, but it's been either slow (and hot) or, alternatively, drama filled days away from the hunting grounds since. The greys were barely moving today!

Have only taken the 625 PP .45 Colt and a mixmaster .223 to the woods this year. Usually both, with the .45 holstered until I get to a sitting down spot, but thinking that I need to get into more tight places, so the AR will likely get slung on my back whilst creeping about.

Did get a couple of tender young greys a couple of weeks ago with an old LH T bolt.

:) But no squirrels in IHMSA! Nor deer.

No squirrels, just squirrel guns in NRA "hunters" pistol.

I didn't realize FP was pretty much the same as NRA. Oh well, we do have NRA locally.

I'm stuck in the 80s I guess:-)

This is probably in reference to the NRA matches in your area:

The Dallas/Ft. Worth Matches are held at the Haltom City Gun Club.

Tim Lee would be a good contact for Texas NRA matches: Tim Lee <[email protected]>

Where in Texas are you located? There are matches held near Houston, Brazoria, New Braunfels, Sweetwater and (I think?) Beaumont. The Dallas/Ft. Worth area and Austin have some NRA Hunter Pistol matches. Let me know and I'll put you in touch.

Cheers,
John

Yeah, I'll go give HCRPC a try.

When I checked the IHMSA schedule, the nearest match was Abeliene, about a three hour drive for me. I could probably make that one a few times a year.

The others a haul for me.

Not everything is bigger in Texas, but in-state trips definitely are:-)

I just wish we had either NRA or IHMSA 100 meter Silhouette around here. It was the actual beginning of our local club back in the 80's, but the most active now is the action pistol division and the NRA High Power division. Bullseye came and went during this time also as well as bowling pin matches. I'm getting too old to run and crawl for action, or to lay down (and get back up) for small bore or High Power. Trap and skeet are more my speed now, but our winter rimfire bullseye matches will start back up soon.
