I first met Lou in 1985 in Fairbanks while a member of Kiwanis. Lou was a volunteer for Kiwanis, Red Cross the food bank and I am not sure what else. Lou was a helper in the best way. He lost a leg in an auto accident which didn't seem to slow him down all that much. He was a fixture at Gun Shows and could talk hunting and fishing at length. He was the go to guy to teach kids the art of fly casting. I knew he had flown Navy in WW2 but did not know some of the rest. I asked him why he didn't tell us much about those times and he said "well I wasn't the only guy serving." A section of his obit is below. God rest his soul.

In life there are those who become paralysed when they perceive a glass to be half empty.

Then there are those who get it done. Men like Mr.Lou. May he rest in peace.

The contribution to the USA and the world made by Mr. Staudt and his peers is all but unmeasurable. We are diminished by his and their passing. ............. Big Cholla
