Dear Friend,
If there is an upside to the Obama administration’s attack on gun rights, it’s the positive economic impact for the gun and ammunition stores. Firearms and ammunition are flying off the shelves, especially here in the Sportsman’s Paradise, where exercising Second Amendment freedoms are hardwired in our way of life.
The media and many in Washington need to realize that nobody wants to see violence. It’s disingenuous of the media and the Washington liberals to make it appear as if violence is the center of this debate, because there is no debate when everyone agrees that violence is morally abhorrent.
The true debate is more of an agenda than a discussion – infringing on our constitutional rights.
Policy ideas like universal background checks, an “assault weapons” ban, or doing away with gun shows are the proposals we see time and time again from the big government, anti-gun activists.
But I think President Obama and the anti-Second Amendment crowd should pause, and ask themselves two simple questions about their proposals: Do they infringe on the Second Amendment, a fundamental individual right, in any way? And will they be truly effective in reducing violence? If they asked themselves those two questions, I think we'd be hearing a lot more about school security, mental health intervention, and voluntary anti-violence standards for Hollywood and its video game industry.
As a Senator who has an “A” from the National Rifle Association and an “A+” from Gun Owners of America for my leadership and introduction of pro-gun ownership legislation, you can count on me to defend the Second Amendment.
I’m genuinely interested in hearing your thoughts on the Second Amendment and any other issues important to you. Please contact me with your ideas at any of my state offices or in my Washington office. You can also reach me online at http://vitter.senate.gov.
Sincerely,
David Vitter
