I've got two Brinks surplus Smiths: a DAO 5946TSW that BCMC slicked up and converted to DA/SA; and a
DAO 4046 that is fine the way it is but is going to Bill for a cleanup.

I really like both guns and wouldn't mind finding more. Not that I need another of either, but sure wouldn't mind finding .45 or 9mm versions. The two I got were in good shape, the price was very good, and what can anyone add to the luster of 3rd Gen. S&Ws?

And if truth be known, I'm getting used to/getting attached to DAO Smiths, so probably would jump at the chance to add to the accumulation with non-Brinks versions.

My only complaint is that when I dry fire I got to rack the slide, but of course I have to do that with a Sig 320, so I'm just whining.

DAOs (the all metal, hammer-fired ones) aren't the rage these days, so I keep looking for a bargin. Me and half the list here!

Stay safe.

I have one of the Brinks 5946TSW's I bought at a show years ago . I'm not a fan of DAO so it sat in my safe until Tuesday . All these posts lately about DAO got me to thinking , so I took it apart and lubed it . It turned out to be a pleasant experience . Not only was it accurate , but the action was smooth . Next week I'm taking my 4586 to try it out . All these years of snubbing DAO , I've been doing myself wrong . On a side note , the bible states these were made for one year . Has anyone seen one that wasn't a Brinks gun ? I had to add , mine is at least as clean as yours , maybe better . There's no sign of mine ever being in a holster .

I didn't know the 5946 could readily be converted into what is basically a 5906. And that's a very nice looking example, too. I wouldn't expect to see a Brinks gun in such nice shape. Thanks for showing us that one, and for the education. ;)

I am a fan of Gen3 DAO pistols too. My favorite is the model 3953, which I believe is the perfect CCW for me.

I still use the first 3953, a used N.P.D. police pistol I bought from a forum member, as my EDC handgun.

I've bought four additional 3953s when I found them at a good price. Earlier this month I saw one at the big auction with 12 mags, put in a bid, and won it. I wanted some more mags and the gun was a bonus. It looks very nice. Interested? PM me.

I also enjoy my 4053s and 4054s. I don't shoot the rare 4054s, but the 4053s are great shooters and easy to carry too.

I have a 4046 which I think has something wrong with it (maybe it was cursed) because my shots are all over the place. I've wasted a lot of ammo trying to find the secret for success, but failed.

The DAO option is solid for me because I started with revolvers and carried them for more than 3 decades. All but one have been a joy.

I don't have any DAO S&W Autos, but I do have a Beretta 92D Centurion and it is slicker than goose poop.
