I'm trying to find out why..my M&P Pro series 40 caliber w/5inch barrel does NOT have "STAINLESS" on the slide.

Anybody?

They stopped stamping "stainless" on the slide a while back. Can't remember the reason why.

The stopped stamping stainless because all the M&P slides were stainless. I think they thought it redundant. (I agree). At one time having a stainless slide (or pistol) was considered a step up from a regular steel blued gun so they wanted to advertize the fact that it was stainless. Now, stainless is pretty much the norm.

My new M&P40 doesn't have it either, I glad, it gives it a cleaner look. Unlike my knives, i'd like to know what kind of steel it is.

Think the S&W regular 40 cal models, i.e. models 103900/203900 etc, never came stamped "STAINLESS", but, models such as the 178036/178032, 40caliber and its brother the 9mm did. I looked at photos to come to this conclusion.
