I might add that Home Depot also gives vets a discount--10%. They all also offer other stuff as well.

I did not add Home Depot as their Corporate policy does not cover ALL veterans.. But if you qualify under their program that's great.

The Home Depot offers a year-round, 10 percent discount, up to a $500 maximum, at our U.S. stores to all active duty military personnel, reservists, retired or disabled veterans and their immediate families. We offer this discount to thank them for their outstanding service to this nation and to help make their homes more comfortable and safe. Customers requesting the discount should present a valid military ID.

Lowes cover all Honorable Discharge veterans with no restrictions.

I don't know if it has now changed but my father was denied his discount because he did have his VA photo ID card. His Pa. license shows he's a veteran but the cashier said it had to be VA. BTW he doesn't do the internet thing but I could enroll him.

Yes, I had the same experience at our Lowes. Our WV drivers license will show that we are veterans, and to have that added to our license, we have to present either a valid ID card, or in the case of veterans, an original copy of your DD214... The one with the raised government seal on it. They would not accept a photocopy when I added the veterans endorsement some time ago. But the folks at Lowes said that was not good enough, and I had to have some kind of VA ID, which I would have no idea how to obtain. Not complaining,....and thanks for the heads up on the online registration thing, I'll give it a try.

Best Regards, Les

i've been to my local home depot 3 or 4 times in the past month and produced my vet card for their discount. i don't know if it's the cashiers or their computer system but i have received a tiny discount that doesn't approach 10%.
example, the last time i bought regular priced items costing $88.00, i showed my card and received a disount of $2. and some change. i mentioned it to the cashier and she said it's a 10% discount. i tell her $2. and change is a lot less than 10% of $88. she just shrugged.

the lowes store is farther away but i went there this past week and bought $360. worth of items and received the full 10% off.

from now on i will only buy small inexpensive items from home depot and drive the few extra miles to lowes for bigger purchases.

It used to be that you could show them "Lowes" a copy og your dd214 or hornorable discharge paper and get the discount. Then they stopped that and said you had to go DMV and get the veterans endorsemet of your drivers license. This I did. Now they tell me I have to go to the VA and a VA card for them to give whatever discount they are offering. I had to give the DMV a copy of my dd214 and a copy of my honorable discharge prior to getting the new license. So in essence I'm still a vet based on the fact that the DMV has copied of the mentioned documents and LOWES won't honor their own program with the same documents. Confusing as heck ain't it?. Frank

HOME DEPOT also participates heavily in the "Tunnels to Towers" Program where homes are built at no cost for wounded/disabled veterans. I am personally involved in one being built in the Fayetteville, NC area. I'm not sure of the number but I understand that a good many have been provided to disabled vets through this great program?

This can be sketchy as some stores only give veterans the discount on certain holidays. The store by me depending on the cashier only gives discounts on the main military holidays such as Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Veterans Day. Sometime the cashier will give it but when you talk to the manager they state major holidays only and HD states "this may not be used in combination with any other sale prices or discounts"

Anyone know how to obtain a copy of a discharge? I lost mine many years ago. Still have the original DD 214.

Went to the VA itself, and they are planning on making the ID cards available in 2017. I guess sometime this year....Here is the link: Veteran ID Cards: What your options are now and in the future - VAntage Point

In the meantime they suggest, among other things, that we get the endorsement on our Drivers License, which they say is available in 49 states, and expect the 50th, WA, to be doing it this year. So this reminds me of the old novel, "Catch 22"!! Because Lowes says that the endorsement on the license is not good enough, and that we need the VA card, which is not available yet!!!

But I shall "Endeavor to Perservere"!!!

Best Regards, Les
