LOWES..Just a reminder..Some companies do honor the Military

Went to the VA itself, and they are planning on making the ID cards available in 2017. I guess sometime this year....Here is the link: Veteran ID Cards: What your options are now and in the future - VAntage Point

In the meantime they suggest, among other things, that we get the endorsement on our Drivers License, which they say is available in 49 states, and expect the 50th, WA, to be doing it this year. So this reminds me of the old novel, "Catch 22"!! Because Lowes says that the endorsement on the license is not good enough, and that we need the VA card, which is not available yet!!!

But I shall "Endeavor to Perservere"!!!

Best Regards, Les

Les,

That what kinda started the whole thing for me. My Fla. DL has a "V" on it, and my Home Depot would not honor it.

This year I finally went down and registered with the VA, while I was there they asked me to sit and have my picture taken for my VA card. It arrived in the mail about 3 weeks later:D

I was in a Home Depot and needed about $400.00 in materials, and I remembered the VA card, and was told " your card does not have a " Disabled" designation, so we cannot give you the discount." Ok no problem I responded and I never gave it another thought.

Basically the same scenario at Lowes last week and the cashier responded " No problem sir, I showed her my VA card and we were fine. She then told me to go on the website,

Lowe'''s Military Discount Program - Sign In

Fill out the form and register, then all you would have to do is give a cashier your phone number and the discount would be applied.:D:D

It took me about 10 minutes to get it done. :D

Thanks for the heads up on Home Depot. I don't know if my local one does but I'll find out this wknd. They have a pretty good sale going.

Quite welcome. I was highly surprised at other non-home improvment/building supplies they carry. Right now they are doing something special for the coming holiday--and they will be doing the same on every holiday. Right now at least on a product I messed with yesterday--they have a big sale on Charcoal-and other bbqing stuff.

When I get to it--one of the karma things ill be doing--involves stuff needed to bbq with.

I did not add Home Depot as their Corporate policy does not cover ALL veterans.. But if you qualify under their program that's great.

The Home Depot offers a year-round, 10 percent discount, up to a $500 maximum, at our U.S. stores to all active duty military personnel, reservists, retired or disabled veterans and their immediate families. We offer this discount to thank them for their outstanding service to this nation and to help make their homes more comfortable and safe. Customers requesting the discount should present a valid military ID.

Lowes cover all Honorable Discharge veterans with no restrictions.

When I see the store manager--ill ask him about that. I never heard that during training--im now on the floor. Anyway, its part of my job to ask if one is a vet, so they can get the discount. I did around 30 yesterday-had no issues. What ive been told--is that H.D. will honor all discounts including the same + more--from all competitors. Anyway, ill ask Jack--or one of the other front end leaders--and see if corporate policies can be changed on the local level for something like the above mentioned.

I don't know if it has now changed but my father was denied his discount because he did have his VA photo ID card. His Pa. license shows he's a veteran but the cashier said it had to be VA. BTW he doesn't do the internet thing but I could enroll him.

H.D, takes 4 or 5 different forms of Vets IDs. I saw at least 4 used yesterday while I was on the floor. I reckon ill see loads more today. I forget what the one exception is? but its not vet related.

i've been to my local home depot 3 or 4 times in the past month and produced my vet card for their discount. i don't know if it's the cashiers or their computer system but i have received a tiny discount that doesn't approach 10%.
example, the last time i bought regular priced items costing $88.00, i showed my card and received a disount of $2. and some change. i mentioned it to the cashier and she said it's a 10% discount. i tell her $2. and change is a lot less than 10% of $88. she just shrugged.

the lowes store is farther away but i went there this past week and bought $360. worth of items and received the full 10% off.

from now on i will only buy small inexpensive items from home depot and drive the few extra miles to lowes for bigger purchases.

Id speak with the head cashier--or a manager and they will fix it for you. You also will get a "Customer Satisfaction" discount and probably offer you a "Customer Satisfaction Discount" which I think is a $25 discount--and probably other stuff. Sounds like to me-the cashier wasnt doing their job. This stuff is part of my training and I make doubly sure a vet will get their dicscount--which is 10%. They give you less-they are doing you wrong.

This can be sketchy as some stores only give veterans the discount on certain holidays. The store by me depending on the cashier only gives discounts on the main military holidays such as Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Veterans Day. Sometime the cashier will give it but when you talk to the manager they state major holidays only and HD states "this may not be used in combination with any other sale prices or discounts"

At mine-they do honor discounts every holiday--and yesterday--they even had a BBQ for vets and their families. They here at least locally, do this for evfery holiday. Your last sentence s true--however, other stuff can be done that negates that. I.e. Customer satisfaction discount, and cashiers can also honor a vet or other customer--by giving a discount that does not need approval by management.

Here, all we have to do is match names on one card-with another. If different? thats another story--but there is still a way arouund that if needed? Im still in training so dont know alot yet.:) Forms of ID here--Drivers license, vets ids-any form with or without photo (card size as ive not seen anything else used or tried yet. Credit cards--HD cards etc.

The thing that kinda irritates me--is I dont get an employee discount-and had planned on using it as often as possible. Not just HD--but I think all stores want to "intice" you by geting a store credit card--to get you discounts. I refuse to getg one as I dont need 0one that badly.:)

There seems to be quite a bit of variability in how Lowe's
extends the military discount. I've had different clerks
adamantly deny "ever doing that", and seen posts in other
forums noting differences from store to store. It's nice if they
do it, when they do.

ditrina:

Just went to Lowes web site, and registered for a "myLowes" account, and they had a place to register, where you put your name and address, DOB, and service info, and they say that they run that data through someone called "sheerID" I think, and they will mail me a card, or I can give the clerk my phone number, and I'm supposed to get the 10% discount. Sounds pretty painless, now we'll see how well it works.

5 years ago, I bought something like $8,000 worth of materials when I put a new roof on my (115 year old) house. I asked about the discount then, but they didn't even have my vet status on my drivers license then. Anyway, I didn't get it, but the guy I was working with at Lowes, gave me a 10% "Contractor's discount" because I was buying so much stuff, so I can't complain!!

Best Regards, Les

Lowes have Military discounts, But don't forget they have a "NO GUN" policy to.
For this reason I don't shop there.

I've never heard this before so I just looked it up.
As of 2016 Lowes still allowed you to carry. I didn't find any information newer than 2016 so I doubt this has changed.

OK, all, here's the skinny. I spoke with the main manager yesterday to Home Depot, here's what he said.

On military discounts--if a vet shows one of at least 5 forms of id? no question the vet will get that 10% discount. There is no 5%-8%--its 10% discount. The person somewhere above wasnt treated correctly by the cashier--if he got less than 10% discount. Or--he only got a customer satisfaction discount by mistake-or the cashier didnt know and gave the wrong discount.

Another thing on discounts--NOBODY is going to give a discount on top of a discount for the same purchase. Someone griped about that somewhere above. If an item is on sale--like a $200.00 lawnmower--priced for arguments sake--at $150.00, a second discount is not eligable. Nobody is going to cut their own throat and give two discounts. Also--some items are not discounted--here and Lowes--I dont know what they are?

GUN POLICY AT HOME DEPOT. As long as a person is licensed--THEY CAN open or and conceal carry--at ANY Home Depot. If your told something different? they are BSing you or flat out--wrong.

I just recently discovered that Lowes will give mil/vets the 10% even when you're ordering from the internet, Home Depot does not. You have to register at MyLowes or some such to get it.

I just bought the top of the line DeWalt 12" double compound miter saw, and had to order it online to get the saw/stand combo. The combo I wanted wasn't available at Lowes online so it was looking like HD or nothing. I hit the Chat button and asked the salesperson if I could get the mil discount ($40+) and she said no, but entered some other discount that was actually a few bucks better. It pays to ask!

I was looking for a corded leaf blower my wife could use, and pouring over specs and reviews settled on the Worx WG520. No local stores carried that model, but was available online from Lowes or HD for the same price. I ordered it from Lowes because I could get the discount.

EDIT to add: Both stores give 10% discount to me with my retiree mil ID, or my wife with her dependent ID. This is any day, all year. If something is on sale I've always gotten the 10% too. The clerk has a barcode and they scan it at the end, so it applies the discount to everything on the ticket.

Lowes has given me the 10% off every time I buy something on sale to include a 8'x10' trailer.

Home Depot has also given me the extra 10% off on sale items but not every time.

We went yesterday and bought a couple of things for our bathroom re-model. Used my DD214 (photocopy) with no problem. They even gave us the 5% discount on top of that for using the Lowe's card. Saved us about $50 on a new toilet.

HD will do the same to beat any competitor.
