Hi all,
I'll have my 627 V-Comp in the next day or two, i've read some reviews where the gun has been fitted with LPA sights and a red dot. After shooting my wifes Red Dot and scoring veery well with it i'm thinking i'd like to add one to the V-comp but still have iron sights ...

My question is, There seems to be two part numbers that offer what i want, green rear dots, a red front with a red dot mount
Part numbers are
WXT-02F1 (Roll pin front sight)
WXT-02F2 (Spring front sight)
Seems the only difference is how the front sight is mounted, so which is best and why?
Which is easiest to install and what's involved in removing the std front sight?

Thanks heaps, it seems like a relatively simple task, if i have some idea i'd rather do it myself than find a gunsmith and wait weeks (they're a bit scarce in Australia)

The current production 627 doesn't use either of those front sights. It's one of the few S&W revolvers with a dovetailed front sight like a semi-auto pistol, although in the 627's case, it uses a 3/8th dovetail that's more common in iron sight hunting rifles.

If you can get Dawson Precision sights shipped to you, they do have fiber optic options in various heights. The same goes for Protocall Design.

Otherwise, you may have to figure out and pick from locally available rifle sight options.

Yep cool,
I was just revisiting the LPA page and the WXT-02F2 (if you look closely at the picture, shows a dovetail front sight.)

Where the WXT-02F2 has a tapered mount and i found a You tube video showing a guy installing one similar on a 629 with a roll spring where he had to knock the roll spring out to remove the original sight, enlarge the hole, install the new sight, mark with a punch then drill the new front sight and install with a new roll spring.....
I'm not doing that.

Am i right in thinking the WXT-02F2 will be correct?
it's not explained very well on their site

Cheers!

No, WXT-02F2 is for what's commonly called the 'DX' front sight, or Interchangeable Front Sight. They're supposed to be easier to change than the pinned front sights, which often require fitting with a file. There are some pictures and explanation in this thread.

It's a similar shape in that it has a dovetail, but it's not meant to go in the 627 V-Comp. FWIU, there are 3 other S&W revolvers using the same style of front sight; the 686 Competitor, the 629 Competitor, and the Governor.

Thanks for that mate,
so i'm going to ditch that plan..... too much mucking around for a fail safe option (if the red dot fails and needs to be removed at the range for example)

I would like a red dot so now maybe i'll find a rear sight that allows mounting of the red dot and ignore the iron sights completely because i'm assuming there won't be a red dot conversion mount that also has the rear sight low enough to line up with the existing front???

There's an eBay dealer from Gallatin, Tennessee (keevado) that has several of four different LPA models S&W revolver rear sights, and all are listed at $99.
He sent me an offer and I bought the WXT0107 for $85, plus tax & shipping, for a total of about $97.50 total.
I'll be putting it on a 5" PC 627.
Cheers
James

Here's my 686 with a 507 Comp the previous style EGW mount (the new one covers the front screw hole and extends the optic further back). It and the Allchin mount are probably the two most common S&W revolver mounts, neither allow use of a rear iron sight.

There are some more boutique gunsmith options that include a rear sight, but that won't be of help to you in Australia.

I still think that the LPA rear with another brand front would be an option for you, provided you can get the options I mentioned. Perhaps LPA will tell you the height of their front if you ask.

That being said, if it's just a range gun, I don't think that running dot only is a big deal given the durability of modern optics.

I've picked mine up, ready to take it for a shoot as a stocker

I think the LPA rear only for mine in black is a WXT0407

I think i'll just get the LPA rear and red dot and be done with it, as you say, it's just for the range, can't shoot em anywhere else here.... so it will be fine. carry a spare battery, done.
