Where can I get step by step disassembly and reassembly instructions and target weight info for the M52-2?

Welcome to the forum. I have the manual saved on my computer. If you PM me, I'll forward it to your home email. The 52 is the ultimate centre fire target pistol, and it's a pleasure to own and shoot.

The 52 is a great gun. The weights are out there and typically run $100-$150. Be aware that installing the weight on the frame can cause scratches so be sure you really want to do it first.

sold my weight on eBay last year for $200
I sold it because like others have said
It will scratch the finish

I got a reproduction weight off of Ebay for 75 and I have to say besides some logo it is a great piece, the guy who makes these really must love his job, it is flawless and the blue he puts on them matches the gun very well.

As for taking the 52 down, clean off your workbench and send the wife and kids to the movies, everything fit so well that it took a while to take it apart and put it back in the right order. It is by no means impossible but the first time it would do well to have plenty of time and no distractions. I had particular time involved into the sear assembly,

The original target weights must be fitted to the gun, to insure it will not scratch and even worse, lock up. The reproduction weights at $75.00 are very nice, and usually require no fitting at all.
Just remember if you buy one, and it does not slip on with ease, you will need to stone or file some corners on the weight.
I love using the weight on mine. Once I fired it with the weight, I was sold.
Also you may want to dress a smooth surface on the set screw that fits into the dimple on the frame, if you dont want the finish marred.

For me the weight makes a huge difference , especially @ 50yds . Gun w/o the weight is like trying to hold a willow branch still in a good wind . NRA published a disassembly / reassembly guide years ago & sometimes seen FS on Fleabay . Look in the vintage section .

S&W 52-2 Maintenance - Disassembly

Hi there,
Just purchased this beautiful pistol, unfortunately, it did not come with manuals; just wondered if you could shoot me an email on how to disassemble/reassemble a S&W 52?

Thank you

I would be happy to send you my version of the disassembly/reassembly sequence. I am away from my desk for a week. When I get home I'll get it off to you. George

I wonder if you can drop a lead ball (shot) in the hole before you tighten the screws, thus not having the screw actually make contact with the finish?

It's not just the screw mark, but often fit of the weight in the rails is not perfect and the sides of the frame grooves are scratched as well.
