Does anyone know what size / pitch this screw is? (Pic not mine). I've looked all over and can't find the info.

Also, I can't get the screw out. Is the best way to get it out at this point an EZ out? My gunsmith is backed up for several months...

Lastly, is there a "better" replacement screw that people have used? (I was going to look on McMaster Carr or Grainger).

Here is what I have tried already:
Was installing the Apex kit for an M&P CORE 1.0. To complete the last step of installing the plunger / striker block, I remove the plastic optic cover and try to unscrew the screw with a 0.050" hex. After 2 "clicks", the hex wrench stripped out the inside just enough that it will no longer bite. Torx T5 was too small from and didn't work at all. Tried hammering in a T6 and turning but that didn't work either. Lastly, I tried filing away one side of the screw from the inside so I could get a small object in and tap on one edge of the screw to loosen it - the file wasn't able to bite into the screw very well and jumped out a few times. Don't want to try this anymore before I end up marring the gun / finish.

Well, if you look and the Core striker block, you'll see a remarkable resemblance to the APEX.

The pic below is my standard fullsize slide (left) compared to my Core slide (right). I would suggest you try the stock one before you take any more risk.

^ I've been trying to get it to smooth out for 5+ years. Was still as loud and excessively gritty / crunchy so caved in and got the parts.

Well, you could still use the apex kit, just skip the striker block for now.

I put in a 2.0 sear housing and trigger bar and it works great for me.

^ Put "everything else" in - the break and reset are better, but it's still pretty gritty.

Anyways, any YAYs or NAYs for using an EZ OUT or any info on screw size/pitch?

Same Boat

I have the new M&P10mm. I have discovered that it is the same as the M&P45 with a different chamber. I tried to remove that screw to install the Apex striker block plunger spring and, despite my best efforts, I stripped mine as well. Whoever installed this screw at S&W did not show it the respect it deserves and way overtightened it. Anyway I am resolved that the only way to get it out is to clean it thoroughly and JBWeld a 0.050 hex key into it. The only reason I have not done so yet is because I don't know where I am getting a replacement screw to go back in. It is definitely a reduced head size for the size of the actual screw. Every time I call S&W for parts they never sell me anything advising its a liability issue. Anyone here work at S&W and have access to this screw?

SOLVED

After much frustration I have concluded the following - Once the aforementioned screw is stripped from the 0.050 hex size, a Torx T6 can be hammered into the rounded off 0.050 cavity. The cavity will take the T6 bit shape. Once this is done the screw and be removed with the T6 Torx and reinstalled with the same. Make sure to use a quality tool steel T6 bit or screwdriver. Hope this helps other who encounter this problem.
