Just got my 1st ar. M&p 10. Been hunting with bolt and lever guns & have no knowledge of ar stuff. Need some info guys. I picked up the m&p10 for hog hunting. Most shots will be taken from 30yd to 150yr. I need a optic with bell big enough to gather light and have a big field of view (42 to 50mm). I'm concerned with the hight from center line of barrel to center line of scope. I need head shots so I don't ruin meat & don't like wounding animals, and with hogs they can cover a lot of ground in few seconds after one in the engine room unless it hits the heart, (hard to hit hog heart without busting shoulders cause heart is tucked up further than deer). With my 308 bolt guns the optic is close enough to the barrel that there is no need to be concerned with hold over up to 150yd (optimal for quick critters). Can anyone tell me what the center line distance is using a 50mm on m&p10 and when 0 at 100yd how low is the bullet from scope center at 30yd & 60yd? And how high or low at 150yd? I know I can work it out with range time but some advice could keep me from puttin $$ in the wrong scope & rings. Especially since I've added to my bill already by having the smith swap the gas block and put on a free float rail (he says I will need this to mount my green light & protect the barrel). So, advice? Any good optic recommendations under $1000? One more thing, how many consecutive shots will this barrel handle before it gets hot & throws flyers? I'm hoping it will at least make ten & hold 1-1/2in.
