S&W was the king of the 10MM back in the dawn of thecartridge. I have four SS Smiths (both pistol and revolver) and a Glock G20. Been trying to figure out a way to convert a 40 or 45, or a combination of the two but can't make it work. Seems that most of the pistol manufactures make a 10 now with the exception of Smith & Wesson. Is there any hope? Is there a M&P 10 in the future?

I think it would depend on whether the breech of the M&P 45 is strong enough to take the pressure (the 9/40 action is strong enough, as it can take the 357 SIG which is higher pressure than the 10mm but is too short of an action) without a major redesign.

I wish Smith would come on and do an M&P 10mm. Personally I would hope for something similiar to the Glock Model 40 ( i.e. a 5.5" to 6" barrel, long slide, w/ adjustable sights, and C.O.R.E setup for optics).

I would buy that in a heartbeat.

If you were around at the dawn of the 10mm then you probably remember the problems with 45s quickly converted into a 10mm. I had a Springfield Omega that broke twice before I sold it because it just wasn't up to the stress. That wasn't the only gun that couldn't properly handle the 10mm. The S&W 610 revolver I traded that gun for held up fine but the N frame is strong enough for 44 magnums.

A 10mm M&P would probably not be as simple as putting a different barrel and stronger spring in the 45 frame. A heavier slide might be needed to keep slide velocity down. I would like to see a 10mm M&P but only if they do it right.

I don't disagree about the likely need to a heavier/beefier/longer slide to slow things down and allow the pistol to run without getting beat up. That's why I think a long slide 5.5" to 6" in length is important. Plus the extra barrel length is better for yielding real 10mm performance.

I would buy a 10mm M&P 2.0 core longslide for shizzle. hopefully S&W is listening. 10mm seems to be coming back up in popularity so there is more of a chance now I think. Mostly companies are coming to market with 1911 10mm platforms but S&W could buck the trend and go after glock 20 and 40 market with an M&P. I think it would be a smart business move right now if they don't have to completely rework the .45 frames. if they do, it probably won't happen unless Springfield or ruger does it first and has some success.

I agree 100%, I hope S&W sees this thread.

How 'bout a 45 Shield sized single stack in 10mm? POWAHHH! :D

Might have to have some kind folding cocking lever for mortals to overcome the recoil spring.

One of my favorite guns is my 29SF. If I were to wish for anything to see them do would be a MP10 M2.0 Compact um Compact?, just saying...

S&W co-created the .40 with the intent to replace the 10mm. I seriously doubt they'll take a step backward (in their mind anyway).
