I sure would like to get a consensus on this before I get mine back from S&W.
I have over 1500 rounds of Federal 40 grain solid says it's for semi-auto's that I picked up just to have some fun with my new toy.

You will find varying opinions here, because each rifle seems to have its own personality. Some 15-22s eat just about anything, while others are a little more picky.

I've never used Federal 40g, but I have been through just over 2,100 rounds of Federal 36g CPHP with only 4 failures. I will admit that mine seems to eat just about anything.

As you send more rounds down range, you'll find out just what ammunition your rifle likes. Research, and fun at the same time!

Personally, I prefer copper washed or plated bullets to plain lead. Just be aware that you will have to pay closer attention to barrel cleanliness with the plain lead.

Mine shoots whatever I put in it; Federal, CCI, Rem - as low as 1070FPS up to 1600+. I was shooting CCI SV the very first range trip.

Though as said above, YMMV.

The first one i had almost two years ago was a little finicky. The one i bought a year ago eats everything

Mine shoots anything as well. I have not found a brand that it doesn't like. I'd read all the horror stories before I bought mine and was somewhat concerned. I must be living right ()

I've even ran over 4,000 of the dreaded "Golden Bullets" with only about 12 failures, those mostly failing to fire. They were very dirty, but the went down range!

Mine eats pretty much anything although it seems to be most accurate with the old PMC Zappers that came in the orange and white 250 round box. Close behind that are CCI Mini-Mags and the Federal bulk 525 round boxes. I've got some of the CCI 1600 fps rounds to try out.

My 15-22 eats it all and comes back for more. :D

Some are more accurate than others and some have more FTF that others *cough* Golden Bullets *cough*. But the 15-22 just keeps chomping.

Fantastic news fellow shooters thanks. I will stop my fretting over some folks saying it could have been the Ammo that broke my new toy, chock it up to just a bad part, be glad the parts almost stayed in the gun & look forward to shooting out a bulls eye at the range as soon as I get it back.
Happy plinging y'all.

I have thousands of rounds from various manufactures on the shelf, much of it is 25+ years old. When I take my favorite AR (15-22) out for fun I just grab what ever is convenient, the only Failure to fire I have had is a few Rem golden bullet and they would not fire in a bolt action either. Obviously mine eats anything.

I started mine out with Winchester Super Speed HP and had a few failures to feed where the round was bent about 20°. Switched to CCI Tactical and had zero problems. Since then I have run Blazer Bulk, CCI Standard Velocity, American Eagle, and CCI Mini-Mags, with absolutely zero malfunctions after more than 1,200 rounds. I routinely run a snake through it after every 150, or so, rounds.

Mine started out working well with only Winchester or Remington bulk ammo. Didn't like Federal or CCI Blazer at all. As I shoot it more though, it is becoming less picky. Good thing because we can't always get the kind of ammo we want!

I have only shot copper plated bullets so far, and it has eaten everything I gave it thus far, next range trip I have some thunderbolts I will feed it. I must have around 8,000 rounds thru mine, only the occasional rimfire failure to fire, or feeding issues due to poor ammo.

Used to shoot nothing but CCI an some Federal... come to find out mine will shoot anything I put in it... :D

I shot 1600 rounds through mine when I first got it a few weekends ago. There was 4 different brands of ammo. It ate everything without one FTE,FTF, ect. I love it. It's a blast. Before I bought it I read alot of threads talking about it being picking on ammo and the manual even saying or rather not recommending any Remington ammo.
