Just joined here and have a question. My wife just bought me the M&P 15-22 for Christmas(a huge surprise). I had mentioned I liked the M&P sport before. The problem is, she went to the shop, with no idea except it was a rifle and it was and M&P. She either misunderstood or was lead to believe that there were only two models, the 15-22 and the military type up to $1900. I don't know if the guy was out of the sport and wanted to sell the .22 or what. I would like to think it was just miscommunication. Anyway, she bought the .22. After looking at this site, alot of people seem to love the .22. Now the question, keep the .22 or try to take it back to get the sport? Bless my wife's heart, I would like to keep it because she tried so hard. Just looking for some opinions from people who have had these. Thanks.

I wouldn't sell the gift your wife got you for Christmas. Hungryman's aren't that good.

Take her shooting with you. You'll have fun together, and you might forget about the AR for a little while.

There is no cure for Black Rifle Disease though. You just keep buying/building them until it goes dormant. Then one day you look at your spare parts bin and see a section of rail cover that inspires another build.

You guys are right! I feel like a jerk for even thinking about giving it up now. Especially since this is the first gun she has ever bought me. Thanks for the replies. Looking forward to shooting it!

Enjoy it, you will be glad you did !!!

Good advice. I was never a .22 LR plinker fan myself until I got a 15-22 for my son and I to enjoy. One of the best purchases I ever made. It won't take the place of my Rock River AR, but it's just as much fun and a whole lot less expensive to shoot.

Amen, Brother!

To the OP, keep it. You'll shoot the 15-22 10 times as much as the Sport once you see how much more you can shoot the 15-22 for the same amount of money. Try finding 525 rounds of 5.56 for $20. :D

The 15-22 is a keeper for sure...and so is your wife for such an awesome gift. I'm sure once you put a few rounds down range you'll know you made the right decision. It's fun and cheap to shoot. I have a friend with a .223 AR-15, and he was impressed with my 15-22. Since .22 ammo is so inexpensive, chances are you'll shoot it more often than an AR of higher caliber. Of course a lot of us are biased since this is the 15-22 forum, but there are plenty of members here that have both an AR-15 and the 15-22 and I can't remember seeing any of them saying anything bad about the 15-22. Hope you enjoy yours as much as the rest of us.

Just got back from the indoor range. First time I've ever been to one. Most fun I've ever had with my clothes on! I am so glad I got on this forum. Thanks guys for making me see the light. This thing is awesome! Now for the accessories.

15-22 definitely doesnt take place of a 223. Its a great second gun in my opinion. Like others said, fun and less expensive. But definitely no comparison. Apples and oranges.

Send it to me...I'll hold on to it for you! :-) Then I won't have to fight my wife for mine when we're at the range!

All it takes is shooting it once and you have the fever. Don't forget to let your wife shoot too.

Mags, Mags, Mags.........

:):p;)

the 15-22 may have been the best purchase i've ever made. i've had it for six months and have probably put close to 10,000 rounds through it. its all the fun of a 5.56 at a fraction of the cost

BUY MAGS!!! TONS OF MAGS!!!!! other stuff can come later! I have 7, im aiming for atleast 15....lol

Keep it! Let your wife hold it, take her picture with it and post it on her Facebook page. Then take her to the range and let her shoot it, learn gun safety and become a marksman! If your wife is like mine, you will have to pry the 15-22 out of her hands!

In the meantime, watch availability on the M&P 15 after the panic subsides. Shop the Bushmaster, Sig Sauer or any other .223/5.56 rifle of your dreams. At the right time, take her to the LGS and let her participate in the purchase of the "big boy and big girl" weapon!

Congrats on a great Christmas present.

You made the right decision. This will most definitely be the cheapest fun you could have with a gun! And you can swap accessories with your AR when you get it.

I went the opposite way. Bought the 22 and loved it so much, that I bought a RRA ATH. That thing is a tack driver!

You would regret it if you got rid of it, trust me.

Well of course you're going to keep it, it is a very fun addition to any collection. I'm just going to build its big brother (hopefully!...I've paid up my NRA dues...has everyone else??) after the panic subsides from the ground up. While I wait the family and I will keep enjoying the low cost of shooting this little feller. Welcome to the family from IN!

HAPPY WIFE HAPPY LIFE.

Keep the M&P 15-22. Got to the range and shoot it you will find out it is fun to shoot and you can afford to spend a great deal of time shooting this weapon. Take her with you and she too will learn to love this gun. Then after she has fallen for it that is a need to get the AR you want.

Right now you will pay a premimum for any AR and you might have to wait for them to come in.

Enjoy the gift from such a great wife and spend some time together at the range. I think you both will like the 15-22 and after 3 trips to the range it will be a keeper like most on here have said that you too will not want to get rid of.

It's my opinion that everyone should have a .22. they are great training guns and in this case, it's a great way to get comfortable with the AR platform and a cheaper way to practice. Keep it and have fun.

I chose the M&P 15-22 for a couple of reasons...

First, 22lr is much less expensive than 2.23
Second, the 15-22 operates nearly identical to an AR-15.

Keep it, enjoy the lower cost of ammo, and have fun adding accessories! :D

same here, cant beat the cost of it. got my scope on last night and sighted in this morning and fell in love again lol.

Keep it. Experiment with accessories to see what you like. Then when you get an AR you will know what works for you and what doesn't. Even by accident your wife did good. Enjoy.
