Hello everyone, I am new to the forum but have a question I bought a S&W M&P 15 PS OR almost a year ago, and the first time I fired it and cleaned it I didn't notice that the bolt was for a direct impingement system.
About about six months ago I was bored and reading the owners manual and noticed that I have the wrong bolt in my PS AR. In the owners manual the bolt for a piston system does not have the gas rings and needs a lil spring on the opposite end of the extractor.
I looked at mine and noticed that I have a direct impingement bolt in my rifle. I called S&W and they said I needed to send the entire rifle in, for the bolt to be replaced with the correct one. I have already added some mods and do not want to go this route as I do not want to put my rifle back to stock and send it in.
I asked them if I could just buy a piston bolt, and was told no. The bolt carrier group is correct just not the bolt.
I am just curious if anyone else bought a piston system AR 15 from S&W and had a direct impingement bolt in it? or where can I buy the correct bolt? I have searched many manufacturers and I cannot find any that sell a piston system specific bolt..
I have fired this weapon twice and have had a couple of malfunctions. I do not know if it is from the DI bolt. I would like to have the correct bolt in this rifle and see if that eliminates the previous malfunctions.
Thanks for any Info!!
