I adjusted the sights on my new 22 compact to where I wanted them and was having a great time shooting. After a few mags, my shots start printing high.

I adjusted them back down, shoot 15 shots or so, and the screw backs up a turn again.

It got to where I was checking the adjustment screw every time I'd load a new mag. I'd leave the screw in one position and look back and it had turned counter clockwise on me again after shooting.

I'd rather not use thread lock on it since I'd lose the ability to adjust, but I'm not sure what else I can do with it.

Either you're missing a part or your sight is set so high that there's not enough tension. Is there a tiny silver ball next to your elevation set screw, on the blade side? If so, When you turn the screw, do you feel slight clicks? If you don't feel a click, theres not enough tension between the screw and that detent ball. What sight picture are you using?

I do have the tiny silver ball. I feel a very faint click when turning the screw. I also have Dawson adjustables on my M&P 9 and my Ruger Mark III Hunter has adjustable sights. The click on my other guns is much more pronounced. When I adjust the 22 compact it feels very loose.

I like to shoot so the top of the front sight is the point of impact. M&P guns tend to hit where the dot on the front sight is, but then i have to cover my target and I like being able to see my target.

I guess that means that I've had to raise the point of impact, and perhaps it is beyond it's limits. I will try lowering the sights and seeing if they hold.

My wife's 22c was doing the same. We contacted S&W, they said to send it back and they replaced the rear sight. She's had it out to the range twice since getting it back, and so far it's been fine.

how long did it take to get your m&p 22 compact back from smith and wesson?

My rear sight does the same thing. After shooting the rear sight adjustment will move a little. My rear sight is at the same spot as when I bought it so it is not adjusted to one extreme.
