I'm considering purchasing the compact model of the M&P .22 b/c it seems to have better reliability than the full size model. This would be a range only gun for plinking and wanted to know if anyone had experience with it, good or bad. The only .22 in my safe now is a vintage Model 18 which is not as much fun as I anticipated (had it for several years).

I bought one a few months ago. Great like gun and fun to shoot. very reliable and easy to clean. Not as accurate as my Ruger mark II but I didn't expect it to be when I bought it, since it has a shorter barrel and is lighter weight. I'm a lefty and I wanted something with dual safeties. I highly recommend the M&P 22 Compact.

Zero malfunctions with mine shooting only Federal 325 rd Automatch, Federal 550rd value packs, and Winchester 36 grain bulk pack. Only negative I can think of is I that I get quite a bit of leading on my thread adapter.

I wish they would come out with a USA made full size with threaded barrel. The compact is great for younger shooters and people with small hands though.

Mine is about 14 months old. Per my log, 8993 rounds fired.

It had to go back to the factory when the takedown lever started jamming. That was at 4700 rounds. I'm not seeing any issues with the repair at present.

It loves CCI Standard Velocity, Blazer, Winchester bulk, Remington Golden Bullet, Rem Thunderbolt. It runs great with CCI Mini-mag, but I save that for another pistol.

IT HATES, and will not work at all, with Federal Automatch, the various Federal 50 round boxes, and American Eagle.

I was teed off with S&W because I never got the promo ammo box, but that was not a big deal.

Getting the suppressor adapter sorted out was a bit problematic, but working with EWK, all was worked out, so there is a good product out there.

I would buy it again.

I bought one about 6 months ago, probably about 500 rounds through it (Remington Thunderbolt). I use it primarily at the range. I have RIP bullets in it right now as it sits in my wife's nightstand; as she really can't handle anything more then a 22. Now my nightstand is a different story.

By the way I just recommended the M&P 22 LR compact for a friend earlier this week. Good luck.

Same here. Haven't had it long but enjoy it and find it very reliable. Going to the range tomorrow and will it bring it for my wife. Good trainer.

My wife wanted to start shooting and move up to an EDC so I started her on the .22 Compact. She loves it and is scheduling some classes to advance her training. Will move her to a .380 in a few months.
Not to hijack the thread, but what SD rounds do you recommend?

I have one and shoot it most every week. No problems with Federal Automatch, CCI AR Tactical, and CCI Choot ums so far. I have stopped shooting my model 63 since I bought it. It's accurate, easy to break down and clean, and just plain fun. I love my 63 but it's always a real project to clean it after a range visit. I can clean the 22C in half the time.

I've found my M&P 22FS works on the same ammo. I bought it before they offered the 22c and because, at the time, I was planning on moving in to the M&PFS line and thought it would be nice to have a .22 that was the same size. I will say that I now want the .22c because I have the shield and it's supposed to be closer to the shield, but my current FS works just fine for plinking and having fun so I don't see any reason to change up.

The point I was trying to make, but got distracted is if the only reason you're getting the .22c over the .22fs is because of reliability, I've had just fine reliability with numerous bulk ammo (and not so much with others). Just gotta find what yours likes and buy that. The ammo I buy that it doesn't like I save for the rifles.

First off, I really like my new 22c. Doesn't come close to my Browning Buck Mark, but I didn't expect it to. Bought it as an addition to my growing M&P family and as a range/plinker.

As with most 22 pistols, and with the above posts for comparison; it'll depend on what the individual gun/pistol likes, as to what it will shoot well/reliably. So far, the only 2 brands of ammo my 22c will shoot without issue is American Eagle (AE22) and Federal (510). I've tried at least 6 different loads in my 22c and the results are a little frustrating (to me), when I see others who have better luck with some of the same ammo I have issues with. Again, this is a range/plinker pistol for fun at the range, I WOULD NOT recommend a 22 rimfire for self defense, but that's just me. I have far more issues with 22 ammo than I do the 22c, surprisingly, the better/more "premium" stuff that cost more $$$.

I'm not going to give up on the 22c, I don't have near enough rounds down range through this little pistol! And at some point, I will no doubt add a FS 22 to the collection. And some folks have really good luck with the FS and some folks don't-again, I feel it's the individual pistol and quality of 22 ammo that dictates the results. Buy one and enjoy it for what it is. ;)

After a trip to the range for my wife to try the M&P22C, she still prefers my 22/45 Lite. But then again, she doesn't have to clean them.

I bought my M&P 22 FS in Feb 2012, my friend bought a S&W 22 c last year. I've compared and shot them side by side and see no difference other than size and fs holding 12 rds and c holding 10 rds.
Bottom line I would buy the fs again

What is the .22fs? I have never heard of that. Thanks!

You mention the 22c doesn't come close to your Browning Buckmark. Would you please explain? I want to buy a .22 and am looking strongly at the M&P 22 Compact - rented one today at the range. I am also looking at the Browning Buckmark Standard URX.

I have both full-size & compact. I have had no trouble with either. My wife uses the C most. I use the FS. I took a 6-hour off-handed only class with the FS (left hand issues won't let me shoot 9mm that much). We put 200+ rounds through. No problems at all. So I don't understand so-called problems with the FS. My wife and I love them. We do our warm up drills with them then move to our same 9mm's.
