Picked this up last week and I am having some issues. Point of impact at 25 yards is about 4 to 6" high with various ammo, and no sight adjustment left. 3 trips to the range with thourgh cleaning and oiling where it says to in the manual. I am getting alot of not picking up the next round, will cock the hammer and eject the spent shell but have to cycle the action to load the next one. No rime or reason about when it happens, in relation to bullet order in the magazine. Have tried Eley sport CCI standard velocity, Fioocci standard velocity, Winchester 333, Federal 510s red box, and federal blue box. Below is pics of the action after third trip, the shiny bits are aluminum shavings has been this way after every trip. I am think I got a bad one any ideas?

It sounds like you have a problem with it. What does the inside of the slide look like? I am curious where all the shavings are coming from. How many rounds are you firing at the range? My M&P22 looked similar after about 400 rounds or so at the range, but it was all **** left over from the rounds. I carry a bore snake now so I can easily touch up the bore at least.

You may end up needing to send it off to Smith & Wesson directly.

Around 200 or so per trip alittle more the first outing. Probably 700 rounds so far. I am thinking a call is in order. I would order a higher front post to fix the high point of impact but the gun is not running well enough to justify that. I will look at the slide tonight and see if I can tell what is going on. But even if I find something wrong I am not sure I should try and remedie it myself. Am afraid to much material is worn off.

I was having the same problem with my M&P 22. It would eject a spent casing, but not feed the next round. I finally started shooting CCI Mini Mags, and have not had a problem since.

Try putting a drop of gun oil on the first round of the magazine just before inserting into gun. This helped mine a lot. I also run my M&P 15-22 fairly well oiled with this same technique. It gets kind of messy but I clean after each session anyway.
I am convinced you have to run the semi-auto 22's fairly well oiled, I have shot thousands of rounds thru both of my M&P's and they consistently work better with a drop of oil on first round in mag. every 2 or 3 magazines inserted.

Okay, the first item is feed your M&P22 CCI mini-mags. The greater recoil will make your M&P22 function better. The higher velocity should make the point of impact lower, also. Number two, DO NOT put oil on the first round in the chamber. This could cause pressure problems. Lube the slide, the rails and the lock work, but don't use more than a film of oil in the chamber and bore. Last of all, what I see in your photo is gun powder residue, not aluminum shavings.

However, If you have a lack of confidence in your pistol, by all means, ship it off to Springfield and let them check it out. Call first, they may be able to provide help without shipping. They have a great customer service group!! I've been a satisfied user of S&W products for 40 years and have had a few caused to ask customer service for help. They have never let me down. For some odd reason, I keep buying their stuff!!

Shoot safe and enjoy!

Call S&W, get box, return.
I also suggest you take pics of your piece so you can see what was done.
Geoff
Who notes a range neighbor had troubles with a Walther P22 S&W sent box returned a new gun with same SN! or that's the way the looked to me.

I have to agree. NO OIL ON THE FIRST OR ANY ROUNDS. Those shavings could also be fresh lead shavings off the bullets too. Clean the barrel with Hoppes, brass brush, patches and repete 3 or 4 times (atleast) or until the patches come out clean. Run one more wet patch and a dry patch after that and see what that looks like. Use a tooth brush on all the slide parts with Hoppes and clean the "bageba's" out of the whole gun like it's never been cleaned. Lube as ordered by the manual, get some CCI Mini mags like (Lineman73) suggested and see what it does.

Did you clean it First like the manual said to ? You could also be "fighting" storage lube.

If that doesn't work. Call S&W and send it back in for work.

Also, I would try shooting from a more reasonable range like 10yds.. Shoot slow, take your time. Try and relax to the point your surprised when the trigger breaks to get use to the gun.Yes shoot hot ammo at least for break-in. The further back you are the more lack of ability shows up. Very slight misaligned sights or poorly placed shots are magnified 10 fold at 25 yds.. When you get use this the M&P 22 25 yds will be fine.. May be just getting use to it will help..Have other good shooter shoot the gun. I know it took some getting use to it for me and I been shooting handguns for some 35+ years. They all take getting use too no matter how good you are. George

I took my M&P 22 back out today and ran some Remington Golden Bullet 22LR (40 grain) ammo through it. It didn't seem to have quite the "pop" the Mini Mags have, but it cycled just fine. With 22LR ammo in short supply, it may be nice to have a couple of brands suggested to you that may work. I'm still going to run Mini Mags, if I can find them. I've got maybe 400 to 500 rounds through my gun now, so it may be loosening up a bit.

I like Winchester White box 555 or the same in 333 count they have the magic velocity of 1280 fps and even though they are 36gr JHP's they seem to work. Some M&P 22 seems to need that number to function reliably. There cheap and work well. My M&P 22 seems to eat most any .22's now.. Some need quite a lot of break in to get functionable on most brands of .22's out there.. I think QC at the factory has more to do with it then any thing else.. Some are tooled better then others therefor need more run in rounds with high velocity ammo.. Keep them clean, chambers and barrels and your gun's should come around.. A gun smith can clean it up some and it will run better right away, ya you should not have to take this rout but it's just another way to go that works well. George
