My son has the Ruger SR22 and it us a fine hand gun. If you have M&P 's already then I would get the M&P 22. I have a M&P FS 9 and the M&P 22. They fit your hand the same and both fit my holster. If you get the Smith make sure you break it down and get all the packing grease out and lube it good. The take down lever is a bear at first so don't break it as some have. It loosens up the more times you do a break down. Great pistols!
I have two in my family and have convinced a friend to buy one... I really like them...easy to take down and clean too. I've had not one miss fire or FTE. Keep them clean as you do other guns and you shouldn't have any problems...Magazines are available... But you will have to work at it to find them...S&W should have given you two mags right off the bat!
Depends on how much money you're talking. I wouldn't pay over retail. It is an excellent shooter and if the price is right, you will like it- especially if you already have experience with the M&P's.
But....whatever you do, don't post a pic of your wife holding the gun
My M&P9c is now for carry only, since they started letting me use my M&P22 for non-sanctioned IDPA shoots. I also use it for steel challenge and it is amazingly fast to shoot. The best grip of any rimfire I've ever shot and the only thing I changed was the installation of fiber optic sights and did a trigger work to make it smoother and lighter. The gun runs 100% with no malfunctions, if I stay away from Federal Champion. I actually sold my Ruger 22/45, as I didn't even use it anymore after buying the M&P22.
I love my M&P22. I put a set of Dawson optic fiber sights on it and man I love it. It goes to the range every time. You got my recommendation. Kudos to S&W. Great gun.
Love mine. Have over 1K rounds of all kinds of ammo through it. Keep it clean and fed with decent ammo and it will perform well.
Only ammo that won't run consistently through it is Win bulk 555 36 grain HPs. Picked mine up for $325 + FFL fee. Managed to pick up four additional mags for it. Take it out at least weekly.
Owned a M&P22, which I sold to get funds for a target pistol. Miss the M&P22. Never gave me a problem. Was fun to shoot. Been thinking about getting another one for plinking.
I have an SR22 and my son in law has an M&P 22. The M&P is very accurate with the slightly longer barrel. Both are very easy to operate and run about the same price to purchase. SR22 comes with two mags and extras are far easier to find than M&P mags. SR22 is also offered in black or silver slide and threaded barrel option. The only issue I have seen with the M&P at least with the one mag that he has is that if your are too forceful insertin the mag with the action open the top round can pop partway out of the mag where the SR22 requires some force to insert the mag. I like the control surfaces of the Ruger just a tad better. I haven't taken the M&P apart so not sure how that compares.
I love mine, I'd buy another if I had to replace this one. I've only had it a couple of weeks but it's a range favorite, everyone loves shooting it. I replaced the front sight with DP fiber optic sight, picked up 3 mags and it stays in the bag. Just had my M&P 15 at the range and took it with me, lots of fun, buy one, you won't look back.
