M&P .22

M&P .22 Magazines

44MAG.com stocks the S&W M&P .22 magazines. I've been dealing with them for over a year now with very good results.

i also have the problem of my gun not feeding with wal-mart fed's 550 and the win 333's. althrough i did have a few ftf with cci's when it was new. the factory mag seemed very weak so i took it apart and streched the spring and added a 1/4" spacer to the bottom of the spring and that improved the mag alot then i got a new mag and it was deffenitly alot stronger then the one that came with it. so far no problems after 300 rounds of the wal-mart cheap stuff. like you i am not going to buy cci mini mags for this thing. it's not very accurate but it is fun to shoot. my ruger mark11 will out shoot it and shoot anything i put in it.....

red dot?

I'll be getting this gun as soon as I get my purchase permit, hopefully tomorrow. I was researching a good .22 pistol, going over the Ruger MKIII, Browning Buckmark, Ruger SR22, and the M&P. The M&P seems like the best overall option...easier to field strip than the MKIII and Buckmark, and a longer barrel than the SR22, plus tons of positive reviews.

One drawback is the M&P doesn't have a top rail to mount an optic like the MKIII and Buckmark...is there any way to attach a rail up top on the M&P 22?

Sure theres a way to add an optic on the slide of an M&P22 BUT, I can guarantee you it would not cycle properly. The reason the slide on the M&P22 is aluminum instead of stainless steel like on the larger caliber M&Ps is to make it light enough to cycle under the lower powered .22 cartridge. Hanging an optic on there would make it too heavy to cycle. So if you really want an optic on a pistol stick with the Buckmark or Ruger MK.

Thanks, good point, I felt how light the slide spring tension was compared to my XDM 9mm. Ah well, not a big deal...just want a fun and reliable plinking/target gun in 22lr.

In my opinion, this is still a feed ramp issue. The ramp on the M&P.22 is short, steep, and has a little ridge at 6 o'clock that loves to catch and jam hollow points.

It seems that whether or not a round feeds into the chamber depends a lot on the shape of the nose, as well as its smoothness. CCIs are tapered just right, with a smaller rounded nose, to feed reliably. I suspect the rounder slugs may not. Also some hollow points because of the ridge at the hollowed area.

I am guessing that your stretching the mag spring gives the bullet casing just enough extra "lift" when feeding, to get the nose of the bullet up the ramp and into chamber.

The only ammo I have run thru mine is wal-mart federal bulk. I am also having ftf issues. I noticed if I load a couple of rounds in the mag and cycle the slide slow the bullet gets caught at the 6 oclock position of the chamber every time. It seems like it depends on how the feed ramp was cut or cleaned up from gun to gun. If I do this same procedure with cci mini mags or federal round nose it dosent catch and feeds very smooth. I also noticed if i load the the bulk federals and cycle the slide by hand normally each round has a nick off the tip of the bullet where it is catching that six o clock position during chambering.

I've been using mine to teach young adults new to shooting how to shoot. Thus far, mine has been fired 470 times using Walmart federal bulk. All without issue as far as I know. So unless someone I don't know about has taught these folks how to clear jams while I was monmentarily distracted, I stand by my statement. No issues.

As an aside, I bought a real can last week and sometime in the future (prolly many months) I'll report back on the functionality of the M&P22 with a silencer.

My M&P22 has FTE and FTF problems with standard velocity target ammo. The higher velocity ammo works well with a clean and lubed firearm. Great pistol by the way.

Hey everybody I'm new to the forum, got my M&P 22 back in April other than getting mags no problems, love this gun. I also have very old eyes so I installed a set of Truglo Tfo's rear sight was a breeze front sight a little harder had to file and fit til I got it in( the filing was done to the sight not the slide)

Thanks again for the input. Anyone else has had any other experiences?
I will evaluate a couple more times, if not it's going back to S&W, I bought it for the cheap ammo to shoot, if I have to spend in pricey ammo I'm going back to shoot my 9mm Ruger, or the rifle.

CCI Mini Mags and Stingers are still cheaper to shoot than 9mm. Why is it necessary to put the cheapest ammo you find into a weapon? It's like going to a junkyard to buy tires for your race car...

Picked up mine today.
Disassembled, cleaned it & oiled it, then off to the range.

Started with 100 rds of CCI Mini Mag 40 gr CPRN,
then 100 rds of Winchester Black M22 40gr Black CPRN,
and finished up with 100 rds of Blazer 40gr RNL.

A sweet accurate & reliable shooter. I have the 9c and was happy to see the 22 fits the Fobus holsters.

My LGS had the 12 rounders in stock and I picked up 2 extra for a l-o-t less than S&W sells them for.

Have 4000 rds of 22 on the way - looking forward to a fun week with this pistol. :-)

S&W response

I sent S&W a email about no accessories (Mags)available anywhere and their response was they are 4 months behind on mags so Hello I'm without. I have one Pistol on order and should have it late next week and one mag sucks and did I make a mistake by getting a S&W product.

I'm looking at getting one of these as soon as my $ is right. Has anyone shot theirs suppressed? I have a Gemtech suppressor and was going to put this S&W M&P22 1/2x28 tpi THREAD ADAPTER WITH THREAD PROTECTOR by: Tactical to adapt it to the 22.

Yes, but I use the TROS adapter Adapters (P22-1/2-20-W/T-Pro for the Walther P22, it's identical), and a TROS MD-22 MD-22 suppressor. Works great.

Can't vouch for the quality of the Tac Inov adapter, but will admit the price is good :)

I have mine for 2 weeks, have fired over 800 rounds. Everything works perfectly except Federal Bulk. Lots of failure to feed and failure to eject. I have cleaned it several times, tried lots of lube, sparsely lubed, nothing helps. I called S & W yesterday and was told that I basically have to live with it. He told me to use CCI (which has been flawless). One of the main reasons that I bought this 22 is because it is cheap to use. CCI costs me more than double the price of Federal. Not a complete deal killer but I am disappointed because there are many posts all over the internet about owners of this gun who have absolutely no problems with any ammo. The S & W tech support guy told me, "Well, every gun is different." Otherwise, I love the gun but I chose this gun over, for example, the Sig Mosquito because this gun supposedly could shoot anything. Not so in my case.
