M&P .22lr

Mine went back to S&W last month for the same reason. Very rough slide. The friction of the slide was stronger than the recoil spring. The slide could remain in the rearward position on its own without the slide lock lever. I suspected the hammer/slide (breach block) friction was the problem. It was short cycling with CCI standard velocity. Fail to feed every 3-4 rounds. S&W returned it 5 weeks later. Nothing from S&W stated they did anything for the excessive friction and it didn't feel any better. Invoice stated replaced spring and front sight? Not sure what spring was replaced, maybe recoil spring? Didn't know anything was wrong with front sight.
.....

Funny I just got mine back from S&W and my invoice also stated replaced front sight. The confusing part is my pistol went back due to misfires using mini mags, dont know how a front sight causes misfires but the pistol works better now. I assume S&W replaced firing pin and/or firing pin spring but just didn't document it.
Since they replaced your front sight as well it makes me wonder if the front sights have a flaw.

Now i am experiencing several failure to feeds after 160 rounds of blazer the first 0-160 rounds fire and feed perfectly fine this happened on two range trips using the same ammo so i think its because the oil on the slide/rails gets too dirty after running that many rounds. I have been using weapon shield maybe i need to try different oil.

Mine had to be returned after about 9 months due to the slide stop breaking off. It would lock back after firing, and when I pulled it back to release the slide, it came all the way off! The takedown lever was where it should be, the slide release broke off completely. I had to pay to send it back for repairs, so far so good. It is fun and accurate, but a little overpriced for the quality factor. Spend more and get a Beretta 87, they are far superior quality, all steel and alloy, and will fire hundreds of any type of ammo with no failures ever!

M&P 22

I took my M&P 22 to the range for the first time earlier this week and it is a joy to shoot. I had 2 non shooters with me and 1 novice and we fired a lot of different guns but the M&P 22 was everyone's favorite.

I was really surprised at how accurate the new shooters were with this gun. Now if I can only find some extra magazines.

I took my new M&P22 pistol out today for its first run.
I had cleaned it first about 2 weeks ago to have it ready for the
first trip, so let the fun begin. I ran 200 rounds of CCI thru it
without a single problem. I was very pleased with the accuracy
and function and probably most exciting was shooting the CCIs
that still had the price on the box of $3.68 per hundred rounds.
Having some 22 ammo set back from the good old days is
"Priceless"!!!

bobermo, thats great to hear you got your mp22 running well now. Did you disassemble your gun when you polished the hammer? Also what kind of polish did you use?

I am thinking of doing that to my gun also.

I shot it a few times the past couple weeks and it seems to be running pretty well. I shot 100 remington thunderbolt. Only had 1 FTF. Cleared it out and tried again and same thing FTF seemed to be caught up on the feed ramp so I threw the round out...bad ammo. I also shot about 100 federal bulk and it ran ok. Definitely feels a little lighter and less power. I think I had 1 or 2 weak rounds fail to cycle the gun fully and pick up a new round. Other than that I can't complain much. The gun is pretty much as reliable as the ammo it shoots and with rimfire its not perfect. But for the price and fun of .22 you can't beat it!

Anyway, I took it upon myself to polish the hammer and breach block using various sandpaper and polishing compound. After some work, I thought it was looking and feeling pretty good. Instead of a thin, deep groove wearing in the breach block like before, it now has a larger flatter surface area that slides on the hammer. The tip of the hammer is now more flat. I'm now using Frog Lube as well. Only had time to put around 300 rounds of Federal Bulk through it so far, BUT it did MUCH better. Only had maybe 3-4 Fail To Feeds and a few stove pipes. I will try to get back to the range this weekend using more CCI standard velocity to see how it does.

Maybe that's why some people have better results after 1000 rounds of break-in. It takes awhile for these parts to wear together. I just helped it along by polishing. It would be interesting to have members post pictures of the wear pattern of the bottom breach block.

Its looking like the time frame will end up being 5 weeks at this rate, no word yet and its fair to say after my experience and everything ive read that I would not recommend this pistol to anyone. At the going rate for this pistol QA and testing should be a little better

Last week e-mail S&W about My M&P 22.
Quote from S&W's E-mail response about the status of my M&P 22 that was returned to S&W the second time around:
"Many of the M&P 22's are waiting for parts from Walther Germany so we can complete repairs, which also slows down the process. This gun has been back a second time so yes it will be reviewed by a manager in the warranty department but it could take several weeks before the manager is able to review it."
Note SEVERAL Weeks, Big back log . All we can do is wait. :-(
Hopefully they take care of yours the first time, and mine the second time.
Rick

If it goes back the second time s&w will be giving my money back. It stuck brand new and there is only 12 rounds through that barrel.... I feel bad for whomever purchased this thing

To Bseliger
S&W Rep called today about my M&P 22, that was returned the second
time for issues with a rough slide . Friday would be 4 wks.
They offer refund or a new M&P 22.
I should have the new M&P 22 in 2 to 3 weeks. It has to be ship to my
Local Dealer. So sometime in May back to the range.
Had lost hope on this M&P 22, a lot of phone calls and e-mail since
December 2012. But S&W customer service finally at last came thru.
Hang in there.
Now to find more Ammo.

Locate some good ammo cci mini mag of =Winchester white box 333 or 555 bulk pack even though they have jhp's AT 36 GR. THEY HAVE A VOLECITY OD 1280.. i THINK Remington PLATED ARE LIKE 12 55FPS WITH RN AT 40 gram.. Sorry for the bold type I meant nothing bu it.. Stick to good stiff and do put a few props of out or synthetic lube.. This I think it the sticky spots on the m&P 22.. After a point with good c=regular cleaning and break in you should have now issues with the gun.. I'm happy with my gun at about 2500 or 3000 rounds through it slide is very smooth.. I have no issues.. george

I picked up my new M&P 22 on Thursday and took it to the range yesterday. I ran about 250 rounds of Remington Golds through it and did't have a hiccup. I noticed that the front sight wasn't centered on Thursday and tweaked that before hitting the range and it seemed to be fine. The groups got tighter pretty quickly probably me. This gun is a heck of a lot of fun to shoot. I didn't care much for the front sight so I ordered a Dawson Precision Fiber Optic Front Sight last night. I bought the gun primarily for my wife to get back into shooting. She broke her wrist and had 3 plates put in and hasn't been comfortable shooting since. This thing is going to see range time with both of us, what a nice gun to shoot.
