M&P 342 question

Hello all,

I’m a LEO that purchased a M&P 342 as a backup years ago. I probably have 50 rounds through it and ended up leaving it in my safe, never carried it.

With all the gun craze, does anyone have any idea how much I can sell it for? Can’t find that much information on it since it was in production for a short time. Thanks!

S&W produced a few variations of the 342.
I believe the first was the 342Ti, which had a titanium cylinder, an aluminum alloy frame and a clearcoat finish (silver). They were supplied with Uncle Mike’s rubber boot grips and weighed about 12 ounces empty.
S&W also produced a 342Pd. Construction was similar to the 342Ti with an alloy frame and a titanium cylinder, but the cylinder flutes were deeper and the frame had a black finish. It weighed a little less than the Ti version, because of the deeper flutes and the lighter Hogue Bantam grips supplied by the factory. They tipped the scale at about 10.8 ounces. Both the Ti and the Pd Models had the internal lock (IL) added in late 2001.

The M&P 342 was supposedly developed for the LAPD. It had a conventional steel cylinder instead of a titanium cylinder and a front night sight. The entire gun was coated black. AFAIK, they all had the IL. They weighed 13.8 ounces. Titanium is lighter, more expensive and can’t rust, but special care need to taken when cleaning.

Your M&P 342 will probably bring a little less than a 342Ti or 342Pd in comparable condition. I’d guess around $550, but it would probably bring more in California because of the roster. A collector looking for that specific variation might pay a little more, but I suspect the primary market is as a carry gun.
