What makes the Smith and Wesson M&P 40 MODEL #306600 LE so special that it is for law enforcement only?

The cost to me is $399 including shipping, and I get three mags instead of two. Other than that they are the same guns... ;)

I can't find an LE model anywhere. I've tried many gun shops in my area and they all pretty much laugh in my face and point towards the door. One place took my money ($620) and ordered it for me. Two weeks later they called me and told me to come get my money back. Until I find one, I'm stuck using my issued sig malfunction device..... Help!!!!

There is nothing special about a "LE" gun. They usually have an extra mag, & generally sell for $100 less than the same model sold to the public, as $100 in excise taxes are not included in the price. The guns we normal people purchase have $100 of excise taxes included in the cost of the gun, but not on "LE" models. This is the only difference. GARY

For that kind of money you could get a pro. Why would you pay more for the LE version?
If you qualify to get one, you get it at the cheaper price. If you don't, there is no point paying more, it's the same gun with an extra mag.

Not every dealer gets LE package guns, you normally have to go to a LE dealer.

A normal sight version is $398, I bought my 9c with night sights for $455.

If they would have got you a LE version for $620 they would've ripped you off for around $200.

I guess it's because I live in the Bay Area in Cali- but that's just the reality of living here. Everything is expensive. I bought my 9c for $600. If I order a gun and have it shipped to an FFL out this way, the dealer with the FFL charges $100-$200 just to do the paperwork. It's insane.

I guess i did not to to bad i paid $529.00 for mine that is with shipping then i have to pay $25.00 for my FFL transfer. Cant wait to get it this week.

You only get the tax exempt guns if the department buys it on letterhead. If the officer buys it himself he still pays the FET. He does get a discount on the price but he does pay the tax.

For example GT Distributors pricing on a Gen 4 Glock 17:
GLOCKPRICE-17.gif

The difference between the officer price and the agency price it the FET.

BTW 1, the "public" price for it is $519.00
BTW 2, I didn't use M&P pricing for the example because GT just started doing S&W again and doesn't have it up on the website yet.

At the LGS where I work, the difference between the list price of $519, & the selling price of $398.20 is the FET. The officer must show his police ID, & this price is only good for cops. Not security guards, military, or ex cops. The copy of their police ID goes back to the distributor to get more LE guns. GARY
