I wanted your opinion on this. I did a search on this forum and did not see anything that specifically addressed this question. New to M&P's....love it so far. I also have a Glock 27 that I carried for the past five years. Here is my problem, I love the full size M&P 40 so much that I am considering the 40c, in order to buy it I would have to trade my 27. Any thoughts on how they stack up performance wise to each other. I know that they are very similar in size...opinions please. Thank you, Frank.

I've had both of them, and I prefer the M&P. The G27 is the one Glock that I owned that I was never fond of...it always wanted to jump out of my hand, although with a healthy application of tread tape it shot just fine. Still, the M&P shoots fine for my as-is, that little bit of difference the the grip angle made a big difference for me. Still, if you've been happy with your G27 I don't see any need to get rid of it. If you do, I certainly wouldn't trade it. In my area a used G27 in good shape would go for $425-$450 (from a private party). I don't think you'd get near that much in a trade.

I have the same issue. I have a M&P 9C and a Glock 23. Soon I'll be trading the Glock for a M&P 45. And I won't be looking back.

I had a Glock 27 and loved the gun. It was accurate and a very nice baby Glock with a lot of holster options. Personally if you are going to carry the full size M&P40 it would not be a bad idea to have the M&P40c as your backup since you can interchange the mags between the full size and compact. This is something I always like to take into account when considering tactical situations. Also, I like the ergonomics, rail, and comfort of the M&P better.

I have a M&P 45 compact, that i think is very comfortable to shoot and love the ergonomics. Was never a glock guy until I tried a mod 27. It can be snappy, but if you put the finger extension on your mags, it is very shootable, and extremely accurate.

As mentioned before, if you dont need the money dont sell the Glock, on the other hand I have both and much prefer the smith.

If you have to trade, trade. And remember if there were to be a "kaboom" it would be with a .40 S&W Glock.
That being said, I am not sure S&W is at the same level of absolute reliability as Glock, but it is close enough, as I have traded all my Glocks for Smith M&Ps.

Well I started my "plastic" gun experience earlier this year after being primarily a 1911 guy. First was a G26. Liked it "ok" but didn't love it. Then I ran into a like new G27 that I couldn't pass up. Could not shoot the 27 to save myself...The 26 shot ok but had to really concentrate on grip as I have small hands. Then I ended up getting a 40c on the last day of the $50 reabate. I can shoot circles around my (now sold) 26 and (soon to be sold) 27. I do like how glocks are made and all the hoslter options available. However when it comes down to hitting a target and "Feel", the 40c is a big time winner for me.

Just my two cents: earlier this summer I took an advanced pistol class through Suarez International that included using a back up gun. Not really having one per se I used my M&P 40 as my primary and a full sized 1911 as my bug. What a hassle! Here is what I learned:
Use the same platform & caliber for your primary and bug; magazines are interchangeable from the full size down to the compact and you won't deal with wrong ammo in wrong gun.
If you already have a fullsize pistol and have accessories like holsters and mag pouches, chances are your compact with fit them and can be used as a primary when the situation demands it.
If you are considering the M&Pc as a back up gun and you'll be using it with your off-hand, the controls can be swapped; I just can't figure out how south paws eject magazines in a Glock.
With two of the same gun, your learning curve will be shortened along with time to gain proficiency since you are already familiar with it.

They are BOTH excellent pistols
I have both. I have had a 27 for about a year. Its the second one I have owned. I just never got comfortable with the first one. It has been the number one carry pistol for me over the past 12 months. The Glock is simple to operate and has been 100% reliable. It is accurate enough in my hands to be good for any reasonable defensive situation. I have never had any corrosion issues with any Glock, even when I sweat all over it on a hot and humid summer day here on the coast of Virginia. When I got the Glock I was considering it or a M&P 40c. I went with the 27 because I already had holsters and magazines for the Glock.
I recently got a M&P 40c with factory laser grip. It seems to be very well made. Its equal to the 27 in that area. The choice of backstraps is helpful and it seems to fit my hand better than the Glock but not greatly so. The M&P's grip is a bit blocky with the laser on it. The M&P seems to feel slightly bigger than the 27. It appears to be somewhere between the 27 and a 23 sized Glock. I haven't shot the M&P a lot yet but so far its been reliable and as accurate for me as the 27. The durability of the finish is yet to be determined. The environment here has lots of salt and humidity in the air.
My conclusion is that they are both excellent pistols of their type. It would seem to come down to what feels better and handles better for you. I give the Glock points for a longer record of reliability and durability. I like that the S&W is made in the USA and S&W customer service is excellent. I had thought to try them both and maybe sell or trade the one I am less happy with. So far, I can't make a clear choice so they are both staying...Oh, and trading guns in to a dealer is always a losing proposition in terms of value. It can make getting something new happen quickly and easily but you pay a fairly steep price for that.
