M&P 45 2.0 slide jammed back

Hello everyone. First time poster but long time friend of S&W firearms. I picked up an M&P 45 2.0 new roughly 2 years ago. I've got nearly one thousand rounds through it and it's been awesome. I am OCD about cleaning after using. I went to the range this morning to practice my draw. Everything was going well until my 7th round the slide locked back but the brass pulled out of the chamber but didn't eject.

I manually removed the brass, released the slide and fired the 8Th round. It fired normal but the slide locked back beyond the normal slide lock. Tapping the slide with the palm set it back forward. I dropped the magazine and manually ejected the round only to have the slide lock back again beyond the normal slide lock.

I brought the pistol home and tore it down to clean it. Everything looks normal to me. After lube and assembly it still locks back beyond the normal slide lock.

Any suggestions?

Without seeing pictures, I'd check the ejector. Perhaps it came loose from the sear housing or is bent.

Make note of where the slide "sticks", then take the slide off. Place it upside down next to the frame in the same relative position as when it sticks. See if you notice any rub marks, scratches or other signs of contact.

Post a few pics of the top of the frame (slide off), and the underside of the slide. Perhaps a few side shots of the slide lock, ejector and sear housing.

The ejector doesn't appear to be bent (IMO). Im not sure what is actually supposed to stop the slide like a buffer, but when it locks back beyond normal, it feels like its the barrel catching on the housing that is stopping it. When it locks back normal the barrel has a little wiggle room. When it goes back the extra 1/8 inch the barrel has no wiggle room.

Take a look at the breach face through the ejection port when the slide is stuck fully back and stuck.

The picture of the slide in it's stuck position has it at or close to it's travel limit, at which point the ejector will be completely exposed in front of the breach face. Guessing you'll see that the breach is hanging up on the back of it.

The only other thing I can think of is the part of the trigger bar that disables the striker blocker/safety when firing, which will also be in front of the breach face with the slide all the way back.

Let me rephrase that. The slide goes back and the slide stop catches when the magazine is in. The problem is that the slide stop doesn't stop it from going beyond that point with or without the magazine in.

The slide is going back to where it goes every time you fire the thing and getting stuck all the way back, instead of moving forward a little to the point where the slide stop would normally catch it and stop things.

The slide stop does not limit the backwards motion of the slide, it only stops it from going forward when the magazine follower causes it to engage. With an empty magazine in it you can manually pull the slide from being in battery to past the point where it engages, the let it go forward that little bit of travel for it to engage. What's actually happening is the bottom of the slide is pushing the follower down until it goes back far enough to expose the follower and let it travel up the short distance to engage the stop.

Take a look at the breach face with the slide stuck all the way back.

Yes, sorry im not explaining it well. So looking at it when stuck back the ejector is fully exposed. So i guess why is the breach suddenly hanging up on the back of the ejector? could the ejector be bent backwards or forwards(not side to side)?



This started after i fired a round and the slide locked back normal but the brass pulled out of the chamber but didn't eject... it was just resting in there. I tipped the pistol over and it fell out.

Can you feel the ejector move any?

Might have to use a little force so use your best judgement on how much, but the thing does get hit by a casing that's moving pretty fast when it's being held by the extractor against the breach face.
